LimbusMap.jpg

Limbus (119) was released with the June 2025 Version Update[1]. In a departure from the original, it is an open battlefield-style battle system which takes place in the Apollyon and Temenos zones of Al'Taieu which were previously taken offline for development of the new content.

Limbus content is designed for Item Level 119 players with rewards designed likewise for those participants.

The map to the right shows the entry locations for each Limbus area. The three highlighted portions of Al'Taieu are physically separated and can only be accessed via the Dimensional Portals at the associated crags or Home Points in the Lumoria region of Al'Taieu.

Prerequisites

Players wishing to participate in this content will have completed Chains of Promathia mission - Chapter 8: Garden of Antiquity and must have completed the Rhapsodies of Vana'diel mission - The Orb's Radiance.

Requirements for Participation

Players must be in possession of the following Key Item Key Items:

Temenos

Apollyon

Entry & Rules

Upon entering either Temenos or Apollyon, all players participating must be in possession of the Key Item "Scintillating Rhapsody" as well as either the temporary Key Item White or Black Card. The Temporary Key Items will change to Permanent Key Items so that they are not consumed upon entry to their relevant areas.

  • Note: If you had acquired either the White Card or Black Card prior to the June 2025 Version Update, you may enter the relevant area and do not need to reacquire them.

Players may participate in this content solo, together in a party, or in an alliance with up to eighteen (18) players. Players and singular parties may summon up to three (3) Alter Egos. Standard rules still apply prohibiting the use of Trust Magic with in an alliance of seven (7) or more players.

Temenos

To enter Temenos, head from Al'Taieu (H-4) to the north and zone in.

Note: If you do not have the "Scintillating Rhapsody" key item and a White Card, you will be removed from the area after 15 seconds.
  • Speak to the Temenos Operator (an NPC that looks like a Spheroid) who will cover some basics with you and then prompt you to set your Content Level to a value between 119~135.
  • Players may then proceed to the transporter platform and select a Sector and Floor to start from.
Monsters in all of the Temenos sectors and floors will check initially as level 150. Upon any aggressive action or detection by the monster, the monster's level will dynamically change to the content level chosen by the player performing the aggressive action or being detected by the monster. This behavior will make certain actions/spells seem as if they have not taken effect even if the chat log displays otherwise. After the monster becomes hostile either through player action or monster detection, any actions/spells will behave normally and follow intended mechanics.
Example: Player A casts Silence on an unaggressive monster. The player's chat log will indicate that the Silence effect was successfully placed on the monster, however if the monster is a caster, the player will observe the monster continuing to cast spells.
  • The monster's HP and stats will be fully restored at the start of battle. The monster's level will change to the Content Level selected by the player acting against it as long as no other player of a differing content level selection has acted against it prior. After the monster has become aggressive toward the player acting against it or detecting the player, the monster remains at its selected content level until either defeated & respawned, or it has gone passive and returned to its appropriate spawning area.
  • As players defeat foes within Temenos, they will acquire "data." Factors are involved that affect the rate data is acquired such as the level difference between the player and the monsters and the number of members in the party/alliance. Data amounts acquired scale with the floors as you climb different Temenos sectors.
Note: The amount of acquirable "data" is reduced based on the level difference between the player and the monster. Fighting monsters that are 10 or more levels beneath the level you selected will award no "data."
  • A progress bar will appear in the top left corner of the player's display showing both the level selected and data progress on the current floor. Once the bar is filled, it will "roll over" and award the player a Temporary Item based on the floor "data" was acquired from. All temporary items must be obtained from all sectors within Temenos in order to open the Treasure Chest.

Notorious Monsters

  • As of the September 2025 update, Notorious Monsters will now appear in both Apollyon and Temenos.
  • Defeating these Notorious Monsters will upgrade the respective zone's chest for all players on the server for the next four Conquest Tallys.
    • Notorious Monsters who have spawned will remain in the area until defeated, though their Hit Points will not recover if not actively engaged in battle.
  • Notorious Monsters' levels are fixed and independent of the content level players have chosen for their entrance into Limbus.
  • Similar to Domain Invasion, battles are not exclusive, there is no claiming of Notorious Monsters. Any players within the zone may participate in combat with them alongside other groups.
  • There is no time limit for battles.
  • There are two types of Notorious Monsters, Roaming NMs and Central NMs.
    • Each class of Notorious Monster have different spawn conditions and each offer unique rewards.

Central Notorious Monsters

The second class of Notorious Monsters are further broken into three tiers. These Notorious Monsters are spawned by completing objectives throughout Apollyon or Temenos.

  • Notorious Monsters are spawned within the "central" region of the zone by completing all the zone's active objectives.
  • Tier One Notorious Monsters are spawned by the first set of objectives.
  • The second set of objectives will not appear until the Tier One Notorious Monsters have been defeated. This second set of objectives spawn the Tier Two Notorious Monsters, and so on.
  • The more tiers of Notorious Monsters cleared, the more rewards the chests in the following month will contain.
  • All three sets of Notorious Monsters can only be cleared once per month.

Objectives

The objectives are all hidden, however, their progress can be tracked by speaking with the zone's operator. Objectives can be determined by testing each at a time and checking for progress. Objectives reset with each new tier of Notorious Monsters and are adjusted to the population of the server. The objects are server-wide, so any player who accomplishes them makes progress for every player on their server. The list of observed objectives include:

  • Defeat N number of mob types.
  • Open N number of chests.
  • Defeat N number of Roaming NMs.
  • Spawn N number of ???.
  • Collect N number of units.

Chests

Located at the end of each sector of both Temenos and Apollyon is one chest. Opening any of these chests requires individual players to be in possession of ALL temporary items gathered from progressing data on each floor of each sector in the relevant areas. Upon opening, players will receive an amount of special currency called "units" for the area it was opened within. The amount is randomized between a flat value of either 3,000 or 5,000 units.

  • Of the four possible chests per wing, one from each zone will be chosen at random to award 5,000 units.
    • The randomly selected chest will remain the bonus chest until it is opened, at which point another chest will be selected at random to be the bonus.
      • The previous bonus chest may be selected to be the next bonus chest again.
    • The bonus chest offers a higher probability of obtaining Alabaster Matter or Murky Matter respectively. This bonus is such that if all the NMs were defeated in the previous tally, Matter will be 100%.
    • Gold bonus chests will award: 5,000 units, 2 of your Race's Shard, 2-6 Synthesis Materials, and 1 Matter.
    • Gold non-bonus chests will award: 3,000 units, 1 of your Race's Shard, 0-3 Synthesis Materials, and 0-1 Matter.
  • The first time a player opens a chest in any Temenos sector, they will receive a Key Item Temenos verification key. Likewise, in Apollyon, the player will receive an Key Item Apollyon verification key. These Permanent Key Items are required to begin both the Artifact +4 reforging process (Apollyon verification key), and the Relic +4 reforging process (Temenos verification key).
  • In addition to gaining units from the chests, from the second (2nd) time opening a chest and each time afterward, players may receive special support effects that boost stats across all Limbus areas.
  • A player can only open a total of five chests per conquest tally per zone (5 in Apollyon and 5 in Temenos each week.)
    • After the 5th chest has been opened, the player will not be able to receive the Temporary Items for each floor until the weekly reset.
  • The first time a player opens a chest in any Temenos sector, they will receive Alabaster Matter. Likewise, in Apollyon, the player will receive Murky Matter.
    • Subsequent chest openings may reward players with an item from the respective zone, with chances increasing based on the chest upgrade the server has earned from defeating Notorious Monsters.
  • Chests may be upgraded by defeating Notorious Monsters within Limbus.
    • The number of victories against the Notorious Monsters will be counted for both Temenos and Apollyon, and will be remain in effect for the next four Conquest Tallys.
      • This is server-wide. Players need not participate in battles with Notorious Monsters to gain the benefit of an upgraded chest, so long as other players on the same server have defeated them.
    • The area-specific support effects and the quantity of units that can be acquired from the treasure chest are not affected by this upgrade.

After obtaining both of these effects, open a treasure chest in either Temenos or Apollyon.

  • The above support effects will grow more effective/potent based on how many treasure chests are opened. The number of times these chests have been opened are recorded for each World. All participants on the same world receive the same support effects within Limbus.
  • Any support effects earned are activated automatically upon entering Temenos or Apollyon. They last for the player's duration within either area.
  • A special icon is placed within the player's status bar when the support effects are active (up to three). Players may also confirm the status of these effects with either the Temenos Operator or Apollyon Operator.
    • Note: the BPALL+ stat refers to Base Stats (STR/DEX/VIT/AGI/INT/MND/CHR) and is listed as such in the official version update notes, yet appears as "BPALL+"

Temenos/Apollyon Units (Currency)

Special currencies named "Temenos Units" and "Apollyon Units" are personal rewards obtained by defeating a required number of foes on each floor within the Temenos and Apollyon sectors. Additional "units" are awarded by opening the treasure chests within each area. Current "Temenos Units" and "Apollyon Units" can be viewed under the "Currencies 2" submenu of the player status menu.

  • Players may acquire up to 50,000 of each "unit" from the Temenos and Apollyon sectors per week.
    • If a player's individual limit is not reached after a conquest tally, the remaining deficit is added to the player's limit for the new week.
    • Including these carried-over deficits, the maximum number of Temenos or Apollyon Units a player may acquire in one week is 100,000 of each.
  • The first five chests opened in each area each week will increase the player's maximum "units" cap (specific to that area) by 3,000 each. (15,000 total per week.)
    • This cap increase only affects the total amount of units that the player can hold.
    • It does not change the units earned or the weekly limit on units earned.
  • 3,000 additional "units" can be obtained by examining a ??? that spawns randomly in either Temenos or Apollyon.
    • The ??? is a bright shimmering effect in Apollyon (the dark area) and a dark cloud effect in Temenos (the light area).
    • The condition for the ??? to appear seems to be based on a specific individual monster within Temenos or Apollyon. Examining the monster with the /check command will display that the monster is "Impossible to gauge!" Defeating this monster will spawn the ??? in the area it was defeated in.[2]
    • The lottery spawn will restart if the ??? is not up and at least 72 hours have passed since the last ??? spawn.Verification.png[3]
    • You can receive these 3,000 units once per ???.
      • This means you can obtain 6,000 units in an area in a week if you examine two distinct ???s.

"Units" are used to upgrade Reforged Artifact Armor +3 & Reforged Relic Armor +3 further, as well as augment armor and accessory rewards.
