Hydra Armor is composed of four sets, all with very different stats and purposes, that drop from a single type of monster (Nightmare Taurus) in a single zone (Dynamis - Tavnazia). The drop rate has always been fairly good, but the fact that 20 armors (most of which never had a purpose) all shared drop slots off of monsters that you would kill infrequently in a single Dynamis zone made the few armors that people were interested in very very rare. Dynamis changes have made these armors dramatically easier to farm in general. The four sets are as follows:
- Hydra Haubert set : Gives +Enmity, -HP, +MP, and +Accuracy. It is unclear what this set was really designed for, but in practice it was used as a max-enmity swap piece for enmity-generating actions.
- Hydra Harness set : Gives a variety of positive status effects, most of which are eclipsed by the sizable Enchantment bonuses. These enchantments wear off if the user changes gear, which limits their usefulness. Some are still impressively potent and situationally useful, though.
- Hydra Doublet set : Gives -Enmity, Accuracy, Evasion, and MP recovered while healing. For a long time, this set had the best HMP options for many mage jobs.
- Hydra Jupon set : This set offers fairly insignificant bonuses to Adventuring Fellow base stats, but only when it is equipped. It remains the only controlled way to adjust your Adventuring Fellow's stats, however, and is potentially useful for testing.
