Egg Hunt 2013/Guide

From FFXI Wiki

The guide below is a copy of last year's guide, and will likely hold true this year as no new reward items are known to have been added. Please modify the guide below if there is anything to update.

Event Schedule

The Egg Hunt event is underway and will egg-spire on Tuesday, April 9 at 1:00 a.m. (PDT).

Moogle Locations

For the duration of the festivities, event moogles will appear at the locations listed below. Talk to them for a briefing on how to go about getting the absolute most out of your egg-hunting endeavors.

Southern San d'Oria (J-9) / Northern San d'Oria (D-8)
Bastok Mines (H-9) / Bastok Markets (G-8)
Windurst Waters (north side) (F-5) / Windurst Woods (K-10)

How to Play

1. Collect Initial Eggs!
"Initial eggs" are eggs of avian persuasion that have been inscribed with a single letter of the alphabet. During the Egg Hunt, adventurers can receive a random initial egg from the festival moogles once every Vana'dielian day. Collecting and forming certain combinations of initial eggs will garner you event egg-sclusive prizes. Please note, however, that the letter inscribed on a particular egg will not be revealed to you until you receive it. Trading often with your fellow adventurers is the key to completing that elusive combination!

2. Make a "First 3" Combination!
First of all, try collecting the initial eggs required to make a "First 3" combination. Once you have the eggs you need, trade them to a moogle to receive your prize!

First 3: Collect the first three letters of your character's name.
For egg-xample, a character with the name of "Moogle" would need to collect one [M], and two [O] initial eggs.

3. Take it to the Next Level!
Initial Straight 8: An egg inscribed with the first letter of your character's name followed by the next seven letters in the alphabet. For egg-sample, a character with the name of "Moogle" would need an [M], as well as an [N], [O], [P], [Q], [R], [S], and [T].

7 of a Kind: Seven initial eggs with the same letter.
For egg-sample, you could choose to collect seven [A] initial eggs.

*Hints - If you are in a party when speaking with a moogle, it is possible to choose an initial egg inscribed with the first letter of a party member's name. And if that party member happens to be wearing an egg helm...
- Try trading any type of "egg" to a moogle. Once every Vana'dielian day, you might find that the moogles will gift you with an initial egg in exchange for a "normal" egg.
- Newly created characters must wait at least one Vana'dielian day before they can receive an initial egg. Furthermore, you'll have to trade in a "First 3" before you can trade in any other combos. Think of it as a sort of preliminary test!
- The moogles are usually egg-stremely reluctant to give out any of their classified information, but maybe if you are persistent enough, one will let you in on a secret or two! Make it a point to talk to them as often as possible!

For those of you who are looking for a real challenge, try egg-sperimenting with different, more egg-citing combinations.

Unleashing Your "Egg Buffet"

Trade an egg locker, egg table, egg stool, and egg lamp to your resident moogle to have it assembled into an egg buffet. Similarly, trading an egg buffet will cause it to revert to the four aforementioned furnishings.

Seasonal Stall Locations

Note: There is currently a technical issue that is preventing the seasonal stall NPCs from appearing.

Event Guide

Initial eggs can be obtained in various ways. Each of the three methods in the list below can be used once per Vana'diel day to yield randomly selected letter eggs. While speaking with the moogle, being in a party with other players will allow you to choose eggs that are the first letter of the other players' names rather than receiving one at random.

Many players also trade and/or bazaar initial eggs in the area of the event moogles.

The following items are obtained from the egg hunt from trading various combinations of initial eggs.

Egg Helm

  • Prior to trading any other combinations, you must first trade the "First 3" combination (the first three letter's of your character's name). This will reward you with an Egg Helm if you do not already have one.
  • After trading the initial three eggs, you may then continue with any of the other types of egg trading. This must be done prior to taking part in other trades each year, regardless of whether you have the Egg Helm or not.

Egg Ammo

  • Initial Straight 8: Trading eight eggs in alphabetical order starting with the first letter of the player's name (looping back to A after Z if applicable) will yield a Happy Egg.
  • 7 of a Kind: Trading seven of the same letter egg (any one letter) will yield a Fortune Egg.
  • Trading the letters to spell the element of the current Vana'diel day will yield an Orphic Egg.

Egg Furniture

  • Round 2: Egg Buffet, Part I
    • The egg buffet has four components. The first three components are obtained in the same way as the nation eggs from Round 1, however, the corresponding nation eggs must be in the player's possession (safe, locker, sack, or inventory), or else they will be received first. For example, if the Gustaberg region is controlled by Bastok, trading the G, U, S, T, and A eggs with the Clockwork Egg already in possession will result in receiving the Egg Table.
  • Round 3: Egg Buffet, Part II
    • The fourth component of the egg buffet, the Egg Lantern is obtained when the letter eggs are traded for a nation for which the player has already received the corresponding furniture items from Round 1 (nation eggs) and Round 2 (Egg Buffet components). For example, if the Gustaberg region is controlled by Bastok, trading the G, U, S, T, and A eggs with the Clockwork Egg and Egg Table already in possession will result in receiving the Egg Lantern.
      • The player can trade all four of the Egg Buffet components to the Moogle in their mog house to receive the Egg Buffet (the Egg Buffet can be broken apart into the four components in the same manner). However, Round 4 must be completed with the individual components in possession.
  • Round 4: Prinseggstarta
    • The final item, Prinseggstarta, is obtained when the letter eggs are traded for a nation for which the player has already received the corresponding furniture items from Rounds 1, 2, and 3. For example, if the Gustaberg region is controlled by Bastok, trading the G, U, S, T, and A eggs with the Clockwork Egg, Egg Table, and Egg Lantern already in possession will result in receiving the Prinseggstarta.
