Talk:A Fond Farewell (Battlefield)

From FFXI Wiki

Zeid, Then Aldo + Lion

Whichever of these foes is alive the last appears to get a severe boost in strength. Zeid can't be slept and can already be a nightmare if Souleater goes off, allowing him to do obscene damage. So let's just get him out of the way first and save wasted time. Hopefully, he doesn't even use Souleater before he dies.

Recommended:

  • Bring someone who is capable of sleeping Aldo and Lion for this. It will make this fight so much easier. A BRD works great.
  • Main damage dealers who are likely to have hate (or tank capable of keeping it) should have shadows or some method of Blink to reduce the chance of being one-shotted by Zeid and reduce the chance of eating skillchains.

Enter and buff, then engage with the group. Sleep Aldo and Lion, keeping them slept for now. Zerg Zeid down, enfeeble and Dispel him if possible. Zeid can be Stunned if you need to buy a quick moment of time. Souleater is reported to be Dispelable.

Once Zeid if defeated, alternate working Lion or Aldo, swapping to the other when they fire an SP and putting them back to sleep. Once both of them are at very low HP, do your best to kill both at roughly the same time to reduce the amount of exposure to their boosted forms.

Melee (Zeid > Lion > Aldo)

  • Went with RUN GEO WHM BRD COR BLU setup
  • Wore full time DT sets and used usually melee buffs
  • Hate caps much quicker due to being in older zone, can potentially replace RUN with another defensive DD
  • Trusts can be resummoned midfight if you have no hate e.g.) after full wipe and reraise
  • Zeid gains a ridiculous damage boost upon using Souleater; suddenly saw 15-30k normal hits and WS's
  • Lion has AoE full Dispel via Walk the Plank to those in melee range
    • Can use Perfect Dodge multiple times
    • Can be avoided with enough distance; deals moderate AoE magic damage + Bind for those in melee range
    • Immune to ranged attacks; constantly evaded with 1600 Accuracy
    • Indi-Fade can reduce the damage taken by a bit
    • Deals 100 damage/tic from Pirate Pummel via Burn effect; Erase this if it lands
  • Aldo tends to deal moderate AoE damage via Shockstorm Edge and can self-SC
    • Can use Mikage multiple times
    • Silence, Slow, Paralyze, and Addle work well in limiting his offense
    • Used Indi-Fade here as well
    • Utsusemi can help block Inquitous Stab and limit his self-SC (Compression, Gravitation, or Darkness) potential; bouncing hate works wonders too

Not an easy fight! Prepare well.

I went 1 for 2 on this one. The first time, I messed up big time by killing Aldo while Lion was still at 100%

Strongly recommend having a Bard and a dedicated human healer. Trust healers will have a difficult time keeping up and will run out of MP too early. There's a lot of flexibility on what the damage dealer jobs can be, but damage dealers should sub Ninja and keep shadows up to stop Zeid from one-shotting you.

First, sleep Aldo and Lion so you can focus on Zeid, who cannot be slept. They aren't terribly difficult to sleep, but they seem to build up a resistance to Lullaby after a while. Toward the end of the fight I saw Lion waking up almost instantly from Lullaby, but our Red Mage was able to land a Sleep II pretty easily that lasted a good long time. They might have similarly built up a resistance to other forms of sleep, I can't be sure since we only had to do Sleep II one time.

Lion's Bindga/Dispelga move is simply awful, since every Bard song will go away every time she does it. Geomancer might fare better, but the knockback will also be kicking people out of the circle.

It is absolutely, positively CRITICAL that you keep the second target alive but down to low HP before attacking the third target. The last man standing gets a huge boost in strength and will clobber you if up too long. Get second target down to 10% before moving on.

I would do Zeid > Aldo > Lion. Aldo hits a little harder but he can't dispel so you will keep buffs up longer. Just be super careful not to knock him out before getting Lion down to 10%. Maybe even:

1) Sleep Aldo and Lion. 2) Knock out Zeid quickly. 3) Take Aldo to 10 - 15% 4) Knock out Lion. 5) Finish off Aldo.

Good luck!
