Strategies as Level 70 GEO/Testimonials

  • Beat as 70 GEO with 40+ fire resist and 239 Elemental Skill. Before your fight Sylvie's dad tells you a hint on how to beat the fight: your colures are both your sword and your shield. Since the fight closes your subjob too you have no way to heal but indi-/geo- regen. The only stat that will both increase damage and decrease damage taken is... INT. I tried several strategies (including sleeping and paralyze even bolstered paralyze never proc'd for me once) and that was the one that worked for me doing the following:
    • Chatoyant staff, Fire resist items.
    • Vile Elixir and Vile Elixir + 1 for healing and mana.
    • Cream Puff for +7 INT, with Chat staff that's +5 and then your indi-int
    • Fight on any day but Fire's Day, Water's day is best.
    • Use bolster then indi-int and then Geo-Regen. I had 195 Geo Skill and 189 Bell Skill. It was giving me over 40 hp a tick. I finished the fight with 395 HP. If I had remembered to dematerialize my luopan I would've ended up with more. I never recast Geo-Regen.
    • Alternate between casting Water III and Stone III only. When you reach yellow health, use a vile elixir. Strategy is just to chew through his HP before the fire elemental does yours. He will sometimes cast choke mutiple times in a row so don't panic if you feel like you're losing. Fight took way less than 10 minutes. With low enfeebling skill I never landed one sleep but that might be a valid strategy. Good luck!
  • If you fail I'd recommend increasing your levels of geo, bell and elemental skill. A good method for doing this is getting high prowess from grounds of valor, using gil/sparks for tomes, and using the skillup foods. Skillup macros can work too for geomancy but after a point only casting geo or indi buffs won't work very well at all. Best way is to cast geo-poison on a monster, use full circle and then cast geo-poison on the monster again. Another strategy though possibly more time consuming and wasteful is just to level WHM to level 66 and do the limit break 70 for it, as it is very easy and requires no skillups. You could also just try again, there's some element of luck in your resists and how often the fire elemental casts choke. -- Bahamut.Blua
  • With the addition of the Rhapsody in Umber KI you can now summon trusts for this fight making it much easier to do. Trusts have to be summoned after the fight starts but the elemental doesn't aggro right away. Summon a magic damage dealing Trust like Adelheid to make quick work of him while your tank trust holds it in place. -- Cerberus.Cleverness
  • Beat as 70 GEO with capped geomancy, handbell and enfeebling skill. I had 56 fire resist from iridal staff, jeweled collar, crimson ear, star ear, cactuar ribbon, 2 merman's rings, penitent's rope, and river gaiters. I used indi INT and geo acumen with BOG. Indi attunement may be a viable option. I brought scrolls of instant shell and protect from curio moogle. Make sure you use the protect and shell scrolls *after* the fight starts. My reraise status from instant reraise wore when I started the fight. Make sure to bring around 5 or six X-potions, a vile elixir +1 and some super ethers just in case.
    • Put on instant shell and protect after it spawns. It's non aggressive.
    • Make sure to cast indi spell first, then your geo spell so that it doesn't aggro prematurely.
    • Cast water spells until you are at a little under 50% HP, then sleep II it.
    • Use X-pots until full HP again. You probably won't need to use any ethers just yet.
    • Repeat the previous two steps until it's at about 30-40% hp.
    • Make sure you are full on HP and MP, then use bolster. When you are down to about 50% hp, use the vile elixir while bolster is still on and it should be a win.
