Very Difficult

There are two common strategies in which to defeat Ouryu in The Savage II.

1. Everyone stand on Ouryu's front feet (NOT IN FRONT OF HIM).

  • PROS: Will not do Spike Flail
  • CONS: Will do single target full dispel (Horrid Roar)

2. Everyone stand behind Ouryu.

  • PROS: Do not have to worry about having your Soul Voiced buffs being dispelled, will only do Spike Flail.
  • CONS: If you mess the strategy up, you're all but guaranteed to wipe

Strategy 1

  • Generally have 4x DD, 1x WHM, 1x BRD. If doing Very Difficult will probably need a COR and recommend having a 2nd BRD mule do outside the BCNM SV buffs.
  • Since Ouryu can do slowga, recommend the BRD's buffs be Nightingale/Troubadour SV 2x Madrigal, 2x March. If have 99 Daurdabla, can throw Minuet in there for 5th song. The WHM or BRD will never have to haste anyone, except those that get full dispelled and have to have songs reapplied, most likely with SV already having worn off. WHM, don't forget to reapply Shellra5.
  • WHM/SCH either with accession or yagrush erasega (or BLU with Winds of Promy.) slowga.
  • When (or if, depending on how fast you kill him) Ouryu flies in the air, two earth elementals will spawn. Have one person (usually a MNK) do an AoE WS (Spinning Attack) on the elementals. This will bring Ouryu down. Quickly get back on Ouryu's front feet. Ignore the elementals from this point on unless Ouryu goes back in the air, then just repeat.
  • DDs should use sushi, especially on Very Difficult.

Strategy 2

  • Generally have 3x DD, 1x SMN, 1x WHM, 1x BRD. If doing Very Difficult will probably need a COR and recommend having a 2nd BRD mule do outside the BCNM SV buffs.
  • SMN needs to make sure Earthen Armor is on at all times.
  • DO NOT WEAR PDT. Spike Flail needs to do more than 75% of your maximum HP in order for Earthen Armor and Sentinel's Scherzo to kick in and thereby mitigate about 95% of the damage depending on your BRD's skill + gear.
  • Since the strategy is to mitigate Spike Flail's damage, recommend the BRD's buffs be Nightingale/Troubadour SV 2x Madrigal, 1x Victory March (will need to haste), 1x Scherzo. If have 99 Daurdabla, do 2x Madrigal, 2x March (no haste needed), 1x Scherzo.
Quickly get to the back of Ouryu. Ignore the elementals from this point on unless Ouryu goes back in the air, then just repeat.
  • DDs should use sushi, especially on Very Difficult.

Difficult

Solo as i119 SAM/RNG with Masamune III (non-Aug) + Ullr (Ambuscade Bow) Trusts: Tank = Valaineral DPS/Sup = Selh'teus Nuke/Sup = King of Hearts Sup = Koru-Moru Healer = Apururu ^Super safe set-up. If you're heavily geared you can probably sub KoH for Shanttoto II (and if that's the case you can probably solo VD? It's 2024 so maybe lol)

Don't think either of those weapons are needed honestly. As long as you got a decent Defense set to take some hits in when you steal hate from Val and a decent set to RA while he's in the air (my ranged set is literally just bought off the AH and some main pieces are filled in with Ryuo since that gives rACC). You can probably just wait out the 90s-2min he stays in the air with a good Def set as long as your trusts back you up/if you're feeling confident and spicy can have Shanttoto II nuke it while its in the air. One of my runs I forgot to get a fresh stack of arrows and had 30 to work with the entire fight, leaving me to just wait out the flying timer.

Out of 10 runs I got unlucky with 2, 1 where 2 of my Trusts (Shanttoto II and Koru) got 1-shotted by Geotic Breath at the beginning of the fight and 1 where we got AoE Petrified and they couldn't recover from it. If you can Stun it appropriately you'll reduce the risk of that. -- 28 January 2024 Kurauzu

Normal

It's 2023. RDM/BLM (for Warp, lol) buffed up and autoattacked it to death. Only reason it didn't die quickly is because I didn't have dual wield and didn't realize it. It did fly, then it landed, then it died. Could nuke it down if you really care. --Staplerguy (talk) 12:02, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
