Historical Reference
Tizona was the name of the sword carried by the Castillian (Iberian ~ Spanish) commander Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar. El Cid, as he is otherwise known, wielded the Tizona in his campaigns to drive the Islamic Moors from the Iberian Peninsula during the late 11th century. It is the one of the two swords used by El Cid, the other being the Colada. Being one of the national treasures of Spain the Tizona is currently on display at the museum of Burgos. The Tizona bears two Latin inscriptions on either side of its blade.
