Vagary Header.png

Vagary, introduced in the March 26th, 2015 update[1], is a type of battle content that pits pioneers against members of the Xol Triumvirate, sinister forces that made their first appearance in the Seekers of Adoulin mission storyline.

The primary rewards from Vagary are item level 119 equipment, the ability to begin reforging iLvl 119 Reforged Empyrean Armor +1, the materials used to synthesize Superior 2 armor, and materials used to upgrade Reforged Empyrean Armor to 119 as below.

As of the September 16th, 2015 update[2], a new system for acquiring rewards from Vagary was implemented.
Players may now receive rewards by interacting with the odyssean passage located in Leafallia (H-8) when in possession of all five Fabricated Ward Key Items dropped from each of the five Mega Boss Notorious Monsters as detailed below.

Note: Vagary does not scale with participants unlike other events. Any amount of players results in the same stats and difficulty of the opponents.

Getting Started

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be of level 95 or higher.
  • Be in a party or alliance of between three and eighteen players.
  • The party leader must have progressed to a certain point in the Seekers of Adoulin mission storyline.
    • Completed Watery Grave.
Party members other than the leader need not fulfill this prerequisite, but Seekers of Adoulin lore is deeply intertwined with Vagary content.
Those who wish to enjoy the story without spoilers are advised to complete the missions first.

Entry Key Items

Players can obtain the necessary key items by trading vials of Befouled Water dropped by Fomors in Outer Ra'Kaznar and Ra'Kaznar Inner Court to the odyssean passage found in Leafallia.

Entry Locations

Players enter Vagary through various gates in Outer Ra'Kaznar that tie Ulbuka to the otherworldly location.
There are three such gates, and the layout of the zone and the notorious monster of the triumvirate found within differ accordingly.
The key items required for entry are the same for all three gates.

Progression

Vagary occurs in the instanced zone: Outer Ra'Kaznar (U).
There is a 45 minute time limit.

Alternative Route

In October 2018 an alternative means to unlock armor slots was added and is as follows:TLDR; this process requires you come just short of completing the Seekers storyline but the fights are scaled down allowing access to upgraded armor. New battlefields have been added to Vagary where players can face off directly against a boss enemy of their choosing. The following battlefields have been added to Vagary: Vagary: Putraxia / Vagary: Rancibus / Vagary: Pallitorus / Vagary: Perfidien / Vagary: Plouton Requirements: Putraxia / Rancibus / Pallitorus- Must have completed the Seekers of Adoulin mission “Watery Grave. Must be in possession the “prototype sigil pearl” key item. Perfidien Requirements- Must have completed the Seekers of Adoulin mission “Reckoning.” Must be in possession of the “prototype sigil pearl” key item. Plouton Requirements- Must have completed the Seekers of Adoulin mission “Abomination.” Must be in possession of the “prototype sigil pearl” key item.

  • One to six players may take part in the battlefield.
  • All party members must fulfill the necessary requirements.
  • The “prototype sigil pearl” key item is consumed upon entering the arena. It must be re-obtained in order to fight again.

Joining the Fray 1. Obtain the “prototype sigil pearl” key item from the Odyssean Passage in Leafallia. The key item may be obtained by trading the “befouled water” dropped by Fomor enemies encountered in Inner and Outer Ra’Kaznar. 2. Inspect the Ominous Postern in the Ra’Kaznar Turris and select the battlefield of your choice. 3. Dispatch your foes. A time limit of 30 minutes (Earth time) is in place for the battle. After the battle, you will receive a title befitting your victory.

  • These battlefields will not grant experience points, capacity points, or treasure.
  • These battlefields will not count toward the Vagary objective for Records of Eminence.

Reward Redemption

After obtaining the full set of Fabricated Ward Key Items:

Players can receive a reward by clicking on the Odyssean Passage in Leafallia (H-8) by trading the set of five Fabricated Wards in exchange for one of three choices:

  1. The player may choose any piece of equipment that drops off of any monster in any Vagary zone, except for Tartarus Platemail.
  2. The player may choose any synthesis or upgrade material that drops off of the Vagary Mega Boss Notorious Monsters, or an Etched Memory.
  3. The player may receive a reward at random.
This may be any piece of equipment, including Tartarus Platemail, any Mega Boss material, as well as Codex of Etchings or an Etched Memory.

Monthly Adventurer Campaigns

There is one campaign that may run any given month.

This area contains many elementals. Defeating each type of elemental will prevent Putraxia from absorbing the analogous type of elemental damage.

  • Elementals will magic aggro and link.
  • Defeating all elementals of a specific type will stop Putraxia from absorbing that type of elemental damage.
    • It also prevents it from casting the related elemental magic. Highly recommended to kill all dark elementals (including the one next to where Putraxia spawns) to prevent the casting of Death as well as Fire and Thunder so that Scholar can use Fusion.

Brash Gate: Category-Plovid.jpg Rancibus

There are columns in the middle of the room, numbered #1~#6. Upon selecting one, each will despawn and the enemy mobs will spawn scattered around room.
All of the mobs have a weakness that they take heightened elemental damage from as follows:

Brash Gate Amorphs and their Weakness
Ravaging Acuex Element: Fire
Unabted Mush Element: Ice
Jaundiced Slime Element: Wind
Gangrenous Leech Element: Thunder
Draery Obdella Element: Water

Five of the columns will contain only varying groups of amorphs, while one will contain the NM along with groups of amorphs.

It currently seems to be completely random as to which column contains the NM wave.

  • Tier II NM: Brimboil
It will split if it takes over a certain amount of damage(~3500) in a single hit. Each copy has less HP than the NM and but also splits in the same manner. Each will cast Meteor when the main Brimboil does.
It is recommended that physical DDs auto-attack and don't use weapon skills and for magical DDs to use only low tier nukes.

After defeating Brimboil, six new columns will appear and, again, only one of the six contains the NM wave. However, now, each wave of amorphs is more populous.
Upon activation of a pillar, the following messages will be displayed:

  • "Fragments of scattered memories begin to coalesce!" means Rancibus will not spawn.
  • "A thousand scattered memories begin to take shape!" means Rancibus will spawn at the start with the wave, or after a certain amount of waves have been cleared.
It currently seems to be completely random as to which column contains the NM wave.

Additional Notorious Monsters

In addition to the gate specific notorious monsters there are additional notorious monsters that may be spawned after fulfilling certain conditions.

Melvien-Hades.jpg Perfidien

Spawned in any zone CL 130 or 132 when the party/alliance leader has the KI: Prototype pearl of ashen wings.

In order to receive the cutscene at the Odyssean Passage, and make the Key Item:

Perfidien cannot be spawned if any player dies before the fight and will immediately warp away if anyone dies during.

Upon defeat, will grant an additional 15 minutes to the time limit for the zone.

In Duskbrood Gate, Perfidien may be spawned by doing the following three things, each of which will give a message to the person that used their Prototype sigil pearl to enter the zone:

  • Kill elementals with tier IV and V spells according to their weakness five times.
Magic damage according to weakness for kill must be between 5000 and 8000 damage, lower tier spells can work too. Verification Needed
  • Blue Magic, at least the 8 learned hybrid elemental spells, also works.
  • You can also hit the hybrid elementals with either of their weaknesses.
