General Information

This isn't a complete in-depth guide but a general idea on the direction you should go.

Roles

Pretty much blow $#!+ up! In event and party situations you'll be doing a ton of damage from Magic Bursts.

Merits

Group 1
Name Description Level Notes
Elemental Seal Recast Shorten recast time by 20 seconds. 0 or 5/5 Yeah it only reduces recast by 1 min 40 sec but if you don't care about ES then dump these merits in the potency area.
Fire Magic Potency Increase the potency of Fire spells by 2. 0~5/5 Early on this will be somewhat important for events. Later you can move these merits elsewhere since merits are easy to cap.
Ice Magic Potency Increase the potency of Ice spells by 2. 0~5/5 Personal choice.
Wind Magic Potency Increase the potency of Wind spells by 2. 0~5/5 Personal choice.
Earth Magic Potency Increase the potency of Earth spells by 2. 0~5/5 Personal choice.
Lightning Magic Potency Increase the potency of Lightning spells by 2. 0~5/5 Probably want to use merits on this one since this is usually one of the top damage elements in Light Skill Chains.
Water Magic Potency Increase the potency of Water spells by 2. 0~5/5 Personal choice.
Group 2
Name Description Level Notes
Flare II Deals fire damage to an enemy and lowers its resistance against water. Increase Flare II magic burst damage by 3, and magic accuracy by 5. 1/5 Throw at least 1 on here to get the spell.
Freeze II Deals ice damage to an enemy and lowers its resistance against fire. Increase Freeze II magic burst damage by 3, and magic accuracy by 5. 1/5 Throw at least 1 on here to get the spell.
Tornado II Deals wind damage to an enemy and lowers its resistance against ice. Increase Tornado II magic burst damage by 3, and magic accuracy by 5. 1/5 Throw at least 1 on here to get the spell.
Quake II Deals earth damage to an enemy and lowers its resistance against wind. Increase Quake II magic burst damage by 3, and magic accuracy by 5. 1/5 Throw at least 1 on here to get the spell.
Burst II Deals lightning damage to an enemy and lowers its resistance against earth. Increase Burst II magic burst damage by 3, and magic accuracy by 5. 1~5/5 Throw at least 1 on here to get the spell. Maybe throw the remaining 4 here.
Flood II Deals water damage to an enemy and lowers its resistance against lightning. Increase Flood II magic burst damage by 3, and magic accuracy by 5. 1/5 Throw at least 1 on here to get the spell.

Support Jobs

Will be your primary sub job

Could also be your primary sub. It's really up to you.

    • This ain't the old days. Don't do it...just don't.

Equipment

Weapons

Keraunos description.png
  • Great starting staff. Augment it if you can.
Lathi description.png
  • This will be the staff to use. Not even RMEA Staves come close to it (well except Laevateinn). The most common Augment Paths I have seen are A and C.
Laevateinn (Level 119 III) description.png
  • If you REALLY want to make a RMEA for BLM this is the one.
  • Myrkr
    • While not a weapon, I recommend getting the Empyrean Weapon skill Myrkr. While using Spirit Taker to regain MP it is dependent on accuracy and as such you'll run into a situation where you'll miss and get nothing. With Myrkr you get 20% MP recovered @ 1000 TP, 40% @ 2000, 60% @ 3000. And as an added bonus it removes up to 3 status effects per use which is perfect for when you ran out of Echo Drops

Common Gearsets

These are Common Gearsets, don't take these as gospel. I just threw these together as an idea on what to look for when filling in slots. It's hard to decide on what to do when you are a new 99 and want to get up to par. If this is your 1st 99 then do RoE-Intermediate right away! If not then, hop into Ambuscade and grab a set of Jahkri Garb. This set doesn't have any MP on it but provides amazing stats and is a great starter set. Frimosi Earring is easy to get from WKR and the Barkarole Earring is easy to get from a short series of Adoulin quests. With these sets I tried to make the gear more relevant to current content with easily obtained items avoiding places like Meeble Burrows (because who does that crap anymore) and the gear from there will just be replaced quickly anyway.

Free Nuke Sets

For Free Nuking, 2 stats to focus on initially are Magic Attack Bonus and Magic Accuracy.

Lot of Skirmish Gear. Mostly as a hold over until you can get the Jhakri Garb from Ambuscade. Oneiros Sash is from Dynamis - San d'Oria and can be done as a fresh 99 or level 90+ without much problem. For earrings don't get too worried about getting old stuff like the Novio. The Friomisi and Barkarole are easily obtained once you hit 99. Just look for something with MAB or +INT to hold you over. Some examples of place holders are: Molavite (a classic), Goetia (From Abyssea), Hecate's and Strophadic. Saevis Pendant is from Walk of Echoes and can be found on the AH sometimes. If not don't worry about it. Alternatives are: Genesis Locket, Stoicheion Medal, Atzintli Necklace, Quanpur Necklace. But really you should be trying to get Mizukage-No-Kubikazari from HTMB Warrior's Path. You can get this after hitting 99 and there is usually not a problem getting people to do this one since there are so many great drops from this fight.

Magic Burst Sets

Magic Burst Damage caps at 40%. While the gear can get you most of the way the gap is filled in by JPs (Capping @20 MBD from JP) as you get more from JP you can switch out gear to focus on MBD II. MBD II provides MBD past the 40% cap. So when you cap MBD on JP you'll only need 20% from gear. From there, getting MBD II gear is going to be the goal.
