It would just be a page that says "get fucked" basically. --Spicyryan (talk) 07:49, 19 December 2017 (EST)

Hi! :) So you want a 119 to Mercenary Guide?

First, I am not a Mercenary nor am I a member of a great Ultimate Weapons Linkshell. (I'm a member of such a two UW groups, but neither has YET to complete any weapon. A great UW Linkshell expressed interest in me, but went gone dormant for now.)

What I'm saying is: take what I say with a grain of salt, as I don't have experience - just opinions.

I would love to find an UW Linkshell that is active and has multiple UWs under their belt. (Oh, I'm a Geomancer with Idris (Level 119 III), full gear (AF+2 all slots, Relic+2 for feet). I also have Relic Weapons for Dragoon, Samurai, as well as I'm a decent White Mage and master Black Mage.) As for being a Mercenary, well, I wouldn't mind paying myself back for gil I spent on my relic and mythic level weapons, as well as, all of the gear!

Mercenaries are a double edge sword.

Client:
One: They offer a quick way to gain something you could (should) be doing with a Linkshell or several of them.
Two: Taking the quick way can give your great and impressive gear, but without the experience to use it properly, people could notice you didn't "pay your dues" by learning the job.
Mercenary:
One: Offers a way for someone who spent hundreds of millions of gil on a job to earn gil back again. Examples:
A) REMA weapons - one or more for a specific job or more than one job.
B) Plus one cursed gear for Escha Ru-Aun Abjuration sets, which can run hundreds of millions of gil for one piece.
Two: Offer a way to collect your own gear quickly through fights for clients (should you let them lot only on the drop they want).
Three: Could skew how people view you or not.

There are other pros and cons and I welcome people to add them after my comments.

As for getting from 119 to becoming a Mercenary, I'm assuming you mean being a Mercenary with a group able to do Escha NM and/or UWs. If you mean a Mercenary able to help level people, complete quests, missions, obtain job points, well, you're talking less requirements.

One: One of the REMA weapons for your job. I say REMA, but honestly only the Mythic Weapons and Empyrean Weapons count for many jobs (e.g. Summoner or Geomancer) and the Ultimate Weapons for some melee jobs. The Relic Weapons may help you get the gear and EMA weapons you need. At least my experience is many parties / groups will gladly accept a Relic Weapons holder, but NOT a Mercenary Linkshell / group.
Two: BiS (Best in Slot) gear for most (if not all) your job various needs (e.g. TP set, WS set, Healing set, Enfeebling set, Nuke set, MB set, etc). Lots of Linkshell groups will help you to this goal or with enough gil a Mercenary group can do it for you. NOTE: What is BiS is up to you and the group. An example: For Samurai's grip there are two items equally good. One you can buy (Nepenthe Grip +1) and the other is a drop (Bloodrain Strap). One could consider both BiS depending upon their needs and resources. My point is BiS depends upon your and your group's opinion of the item and the needs of the group.
Three: Acceptable to great macros and/or using the Windower add-on, GearSwap.
Four: Vorseals - All of them or as many as you can get.
Four: Experience fighting in a party! Taking commands! Respecting the "Chain of Command." Experience fight each of the Escha NMs!

I'm sure there is a lot more I can tell you at this point of my personal development. Bottom line, though, being a Mercenary takes hard work, discipline, experience, a thick skin, and above all a command of your job and the skill to do the job.

Let me know if you're talking about a less intense Mercenary, such as those I mentioned earlier.

GEO and RUN Relic and Empy gear use different means to obtain gear than presented on main page.

The main page talks about obtaining relic and empy gear by doing Dynamis and Abyssea, but just a reminder GEO and RUN obtain their gear for these areas via quests. It might be good to add this information to the main page. Thank you. --IBHalliwell (talk) 00:38, 8 November 2017 (EST)

Yeah that is a good point, I will add it, thanks. --Spicyryan (talk) 08:00, 8 November 2017 (EST)
