Lore
Wasserspeier is the German word for gargoyle. From the words wasser (va.sɐ) meaning "water", speinen (ʃpaɪ̯ən) meaning "to spit", and -er (ɐ) which turns the verb into a noun.
This being in reference to the architectural functionality of a gargoyle. Which was designed to guide water from a roof and away from the building.
It also made for a good Saturday morning cartoon.
