About the Wyvern
The wyvern is the loyal companion of all Dragoons in Vana'diel, summoned through the job ability Call Wyvern. They remain by their side until dismissed or defeated.
- If dismissed at 100% HP they may be immediately recalled via Call Wyvern.
- If dismissed at ≤99% HP or defeated they will be subject to the recast time of Call Wyvern.
Wyverns will follow their master through zones, into battlefields, and while riding Chocobos and Mounts.
Wyverns are actually the same job as Dragoons and thus share the same traits such as Accuracy Bonus, Attack Bonus, etc, but also have the Subtle Blow trait which Dragoons do not.
Wyvern Level
While a Dragoon is first leveling up, their Wyvern will be the same level as the Dragoon at the point Call Wyvern is used. When the Dragoon levels up the wyverm must be dismissed/recalled in order to gain the level.
When a Dragoon has reached level 99, the Wyvern will be subject to item level gear just like the Dragoon is, except the Wyvern's level will be solely based on the item level of a Dragoon's mainhand weapon. making the current max level of a Wyvern, 119.
Parameter Increase
Every time the Dragoon gains 200 EXP the Wyvern will gain a parameter increase. This increase caps after 5 level ups, and will be obtained all at once if 1,000 EXP is gained at one time.
- If a Dragoon has merits in Spirit Link then the wyvern will gain 200 EXP per level.
- This increase is reset upon zoning, loss of the wyvern, starting a Unity or Geas Fete (Escha) battle, or entering an instance such as a BCNM.
The bonuses are as follows:
- For the Dragoon per parameter increase:
If a Dragoon possesses enough Job Points then a parameter increase will also grant them the following:
- 100 Job Point Gift:
- 1200 Job Point Gift:
- Double Attack +2% (Cap:10%)
- Cumulative with the 100 point gift for a cap of 15%.
- For the Wyvern per parameter increase:

Wyvern Types
Types of Wyverns
|
A Wyvern has three different types it may be. The current type of a Wyvern is set solely by the Support Job of the Dragoon.
|
Type
|
Required Support Job
|
Description
|
Offensive Wyvern
|
None, WAR, MNK, THF, BST, RNG, SAM, COR, PUP, DNC
|
This is the de facto Wyvern type. A Wyvern will use an elemental damage breath whenever the Dragoon uses a Weaponskill. See: Elemental Breath
|
Defensive Wyvern
|
WHM, BLM, RDM, SMN, BLU, SCH, GEO
|
The Wyvern will use a soothing removal breath whenever the Dragoon uses a Weaponskill if an applicable status ailment is active on the Dragoon. The Wyvern will also be capable of healing the Dragoon and party members after triggered to by the Dragoon when their HP has gone below a certain threshold and any spell is cast by the Dragoon (via their support job). See: Healing Breath
|
Multipurpose Wyvern
|
PLD, DRK, BRD, NIN, RUN
|
This is a combination of both Offensive and Defensive Wyverns. Elemental Breaths will be used after a Weaponskill, but not Removal Breaths. The Wyvern will cure the Dragoon only, and the HP threshold to do so is lower than a purely Defensive Wyvern.
|
Elemental Breath
Elemental Breath
|
Elemental breaths are triggered after each time a Dragoon uses a weaponskill or uses Smiting Breath.
Only offensive and hybrid type wyverns may use an Elemental Breath.
The selected breath is determined exclusively by an opponents weakness. Magic damage reduction debuffs, absoprtion, accuracy buffs such as Klimaform, or equipment such as the Drachen Armet/+1 or Vishap Armet/+1/+2/+3 are ignored entirely. Debuffs on the monster such as Threnody or Skillchains are factored into this choice though. In the event of a weakness tie, breaths are selected in the following order of Fire → Ice → Wind → Earth → Thunder → Water
Elemental breaths are capable of magic bursting.
Elemental breaths are subject to being resisted by a foe (1/2, 1/4, 1/6, or 1/8th resist).
The damage is calculated as breath damage meaning they are unaffected by Magic Defense Bonus, magic damage reduction, the day of the week, or weather. Elemental breaths are also not affected by increasing the wyvern's magic attack bonus or through similar benefits.
Potency is increased via a wyverns current HP and current TP as well as breath + equipment and augments.
Elemental breath corresponds to the following formula:
- Damage Dealt =

Healing Breath
Healing Breath
|
Healing breaths are triggered after each time a Dragoon casts a spell are an appropriate HP threshold (below) or uses Restoring Breath.
Only defensive and hybrid type wyverns may use healing breath.
Healing breath has a max range of 13' and generate little or no enmity.
Potency is increased via a wyverns max HP and current TP as well as breath + equipment and augments.
Healing breath corresponds to the following formula:
- HP Recovered = [([(Wyvern HP)*(Breath Multiplier/256)] + Healing Breath Base + (Breath Job Points * 10)) * (1 + (Breath Augments/100))]
- Breath Multiplier = Σ(Healing Breath Value + Enhances Breath Equipment + Deep Breathing Modifier)
- Deep Breathing Modifier = ([37.5 + (12.5 * Deep Breathing Merits)] + Augment Deep Breathing)
- Augment Deep Breathing = 5 per merit including the first

Healing Breath Activation Threshold
|
Healing Breath has a max HP threshold before it will active. Once a spell is cast at the proper amount of HP the Wyvern will use a Healing Breath.
The spell takes into account your HP at the time the spell is cast (midcast) and not before or while it is being casted.
The AF helm (Drachen Armet/+1 or Vishap Armet/+1/+2/+3) may be worn at midcast to trigger a healing breath and then changed to a helm that enhances breath potency (see below).

Removal Breath
Removal Breath
|
Removal breaths take the place of an elemental breath. After a weaponskill the wyvern will remove a corresponding status ailment from the Dragoon or party member.
Only defensive type wyverns may use a removal breath.
Note: Remove Doom only has a 20~25% chance of success.

Enhances Breath Equipment
Notes
|
Enhances Breath Equipment has a cap of 64/256.
- Equipment with an augment of "Breath +" is separate from the equipment cap of 64/256 and works based off a x/100 system where 100/100 would effectively double the power of a breath.

Notes

While wyverns benefit from all "Pet:" equipment. The following equipment is specifically for wyverns only.
While healing breath may benefit more from breath potency gear. Steady Wing is strongly effected by pet/wyvern HP+ equipment.
