BatchPLD:Equip Sets

From FFXI Wiki

DISCLAIMER: This guide is not meant to be the authority on paladin or gear choices for paladin. Akin to my WHM guide, this is simply how I play paladin and explanations for players looking to learn by disciminating information from people much more intelligent than I. This guide assumes you are mastered, maxed your merits, and running /BLU as your subjob. Additionally, every set here focuses on keeping HP at or above 3,000HP. Don't make your healers struggle needlessly.

Idle Sets
Idle/TP

+1,234 HP, +99 Enmity
P.Dmg-51%, M.Dmg-28%
Precast Sets
All Spells

80% FC, +1,207 HP

There is very little leeway in this set, you effectively need perfect augments in order to reach the 80% Fast Cast cap. Swapping Sword/Shield is rather controversial, but honestly, you will find spell-spamming more effective for hate control than weaponskills. You will only have this set on for a fraction of a second, so I'm not concerned about not having aegis or ochain equipped. All in all, the benefits of casting quickly makes this set extremely worthwhile.

Note: If you have Silver Moogle Belt or Gold Moogle Belt, this item yields around +20~60 more HP than Creed belt, so use that if you have it.

Abilities

+160 Enmity, +1,185 HP

Paladin utilizes the majority its job abilities for enmity generation as well as defense purposes so you want to macro in an enmity set whenever you use them. There is a cap of 200 Enmity gained via gear. The following set gets as close as you can while still staying above 3,000 HP.

If you want to save the inventory space and use Souv+1 in all your slots, by all means, but as you start playing with powerful DD, the enmity requirements are just going to get higher and higher. And while, to some extent, dealing with enmity caps is a real thing, I would rather try to make sure the mob is on me as much as possible.

Note: You can macro in Reverence Leggings +3, Caballarius Breeches +3, Caballarius Leggings +3, and Caballarius Coronet +3 on top of this set for each corresponding ability.

Weaponskills

Typically, if you are fighting anything thats worth a damn, chances are you can't interrupt a skillchain. You will almost exclusively hold enmity via spells, but that doesnt mean weaponskills don't have a place.

Atonement is the go-to weaponskill as it generates a massive amount of enmity. Because my sets focus on swapping out weapons and shields, you will not be able to reliably keep aftermath up. Here's the set if you want to use atonement regardless.

Note: There are a lot of great resources out there on how to gear DD and Hybrid Paladins along with WS sets for Savage Blade, CDC, Aeolian Edge, etc. I play paladin to tank, so this guide will focus only on that.

Midcast Sets
AoE Enmity

Spell Interruption-95%
+1,208 HP, +131 Enmity
