The Wyrm God

Very easy at ilvl 119 with all healer/support trusts (any trust that melees is annoying and heals him too much).

  1. take any atmas and the buffs from the prospector
  2. take him to 55-60% and stop (below 50% he starts spamming TP/magic) you only heal him at that point.
  3. wait until he dives through the ground and returns with his wings folded back (usually around 3 min AFTER engaging)
  4. go to town cause he no longer can absorb damage.

Koru Moru's Paralyze is very strong against Shinryu stoping almost all ga magic and lots of melee attacks.

You don't need blue proc for him to drop items. If you want to proc blue do it with crap weapons during the 1st form

There is a move called Cataclysmic Vortex that will take around 90% of all pt members HP. Magic damage taken - reduces this damage significantly. It usually won't end up in a wipe regardless. -- 17:22, 28 June 2018‎ User:Shperax

Note: After hundreds of tries I have never seen a drop of anything but accessories (Ring, Earring, Ammo) from any difficulty below Normal. I can't say it is a 0% chance but it has to be damn close. Liquefier (talk)Liquefier

Solo on VD as RDM/NIN with extreme effort. This fight was intense as you are basically soloing the whole thing without trusts. Your goal to start the fight is to keep the trusts alive to buff you before they die. They will normally not last more than 30 seconds once engaged. To improve chances of their survival in the opening, prebuff all with Shell V and Haste2 any of them that can cast healing magic. After the point where they die the fight really begins.

One thing I've neglected to mention across these strategies is positioning. You want to make sure you stand to either of his sides. This will help you avoid Cosmic Breath which I used as a free window for DPS, rebuffing or debuffing, and so on. When he knocks you back just make sure to reposition. In addition, make sure you unlock/relock your camera when the boss shifts modes if you play locked on. If you do not it will be a very disorienting fight on any of the difficulties.

I used a setup of Vitiation Sword and Ternion Dagger +1. Normally I would say the weapon used shouldn't matter, but the DPS from enspells helps with inevitability for the win. Just use the enspell of the current day or Fire/Thunder. Damage fluctuates depending on "wing-mode," as in one mode they were doing ~400 per swing and in others it was around 800-1000 dmg per swing without Obi. I did not check other enspells, but I assume the light-aligned ones will work best. You will need to keep yourself fully buffed and Shinryu constantly debuffed with Frazzle3/Distract3/Addle2/Dia3/Silence. Silence makes the fight much more manageable and is fairly easy to land once Frazzle3 is up. Favor Saboteur for Frazzle/Distract, but once below 50% just use it on cooldown to reapply any lost debuffs or enhance enspell accuracy due to Protostar reseting JA's. For barspells, I used Barblizzard and Barparalyze. Keep yourself above ~1600 HP through either cures or Sanguine Blade and wear the boss down. It took me ~20mins to complete the fight, so you have time. Just be patient and time your casts. Getting greedy on WS gets you dead. Aside from Sanguine Blade for HP if MP was low, I used Savage Blade when over 2k TP. Be ready to immediately remove Paralyze, as it is more dangerous to you than Stun or Terror since it will have a longer duration. Stun and Terror will not be a problem when removing doom due to short durations, but Paralyze will. The last 10% is probably the most intense focus/fight I have ever been a part of in this game. Just know that you will eventually win if you get to this point with ~12 mins remaining, so focus on survival. He will spam all kinds of terrible on you as he fights for his life. Just focus and don't give up! The trust setup is more flexible in my solo strategies on lower difficulties, but I used the configuration below specifically for the prebuffs they provide as I knew they were as good as dead going in.

Recommended Meds:

  • Panacea (2 stacks)
  • Remedy (2 stacks)
  • Holy Water (5 stacks, and you will probably use almost all of them)

Trust Setup: GEO / WHM / WHM / BRD / COR

  • Sylvie - Will provide entrusted Macc bubble, helps get a headstart on enspell damage at the start of the fight.
  • Ygnas - UC WHM Trusts will probably be fine. Necessary to keep other trusts alive as long as possible.
  • Monberaux - Use a second WHM trust if you find your run lacking in healing and don't have access to him. Same as Ygnas.
  • Ulmia - Will be one of the first to die, so enjoy those marches while you can.
  • Qultada - Will usually be the actual first to die. You actually want him to use Evoker's due to MP strain, but even if he provides Chaos/Fighter's it is fine.

I've been soloing this on VD as a RDM/NIN for the last week with only one loss, which was the learning run.

Average time to complete is about 12 minutes, 20 minutes if Shinryu wants to be a jerk.

Medicine:

  • 2 stacks Panacea
  • 2 stacks Holy Water
  • 1 stack Remedy

The worst I've seen with Atomic Ray spam is 9 times in one fight, which is an anomaly but no sense in risking it. Expect on average to use about 4. Use a holy water set, Nicanders and two belmont +1 rings, you will get doom off in 1-2 meds, expect to use about 4 or less per fight. The most I've been paralyzed in a single run is 5 times, but usually I use a single Remedy per fight. I just keep extra on hand just in case.

Opener:

  • Tropical Crepe > Enter
  • Summon trusts (Cornelia, Brygid, Star Sibyl, targetable trusts just kind of get in the way and trigger draw ins due to Vortex's hate reset)
  • Buffs (Refresh III > Haste II > Shell V > Protect V > Gain-MND > Phalanx > Barfire > Baramnesia > Temper II > En-day, or whatever you want > Aquaveil > Stoneskin > Utsusemi > Regen II)
  • Saboteur > Frazzle III
  • Spontaneity > Impact
  • Paralyze II > Slow II > Addle II > Blind II > Poison II > Silence > Bio III
  • Convert if needed. Sometimes he gets a few hard hits in while you're debuffing, eating up your MP after buffing/debuffing
  • Auto and Seraph Blade at 1750+ TP
  • Dispel Mighty Guards

The Fight:

Heal when HP goes below 900, he rarely hits hard once fully debuffed, but if all of his hits connect he can do about 850 damage. Also heal right after Cataclysmic Vortex. do NOT forget Shell 5, or else Vortex will kill you.

Maintain debuffs, Paralyze and Slow pretty much disable Shinryu, Addle can help reduce the incidences of Paralyze from Gyre Charge, as well as Terror from Dark Matter. Try to line up your dMND debuffs with Saboteur, but don't hold on to it below 50%, use it whenever anything drops as Protostar will eat it.

Always keep Silence up. Sometimes as soon as Silence wears it may instant cast, which is just something you have to deal with. If you get Kaustra on you (which I think is 50% or lower), focus on healing yourself and maintaining debuffs. It's usually not a huge deal, just an inconvenience.

Mighty Guard spam is probably the most annoying thing about this fight, sometimes it wont use it at all, sometimes it will use it 5 times in succession. each time Shinryu uses it, he gains about 5~6% hp back. If your auto's are hitting for 3k~6k combined enspells when his wings are out, this won't really be a problem, just an annoyance.

At 4/5 Malignance and keeping addle up fulltime Dark Matter rarely terror's, but I've seen it go up for up to 20 seconds. This could be problematic if it also did Vortex after that. It's unlikely but possible that it could combo you.

From my experience, the fight gets easier at 50% because of his expanded moveset, which more often than not is just free time if you get doom off asap.

All in all, the fight is no different than D, or even N really, just takes a bit more time. The REMA rock consolation prizes may not cover the cost of panacea resulting in a net loss of gil on VD, though.

My gear: RDM GS Lua

One addendum to clear something up, Utsusemi and Stoneskin are only prepopped before the fight to buffer out some time to get debuffs on. They are not necessary, nor should they be used during the fight as it's a massive DPS loss. Once you have slow and paralyze on that is more than enough to slow down Shinryu's attacks to the point where regen and curing after Cataclysmic Vortex are the only heals you will need. Obviously keep an eye on your HP for when it gets the big hits off, sometimes his abilities will hit for large amounts, but with 4/5 malignance most abilities and attacks will be less than 300 damage.

Difficult

Solo on D with great effort as RDM/NIN. All trusts died by 75% due to being systematically one-shot and the rest was won with pluck and determination. It feels like an outlast sort of fight, as there's more than enough time to win when geared for low buff damage output. Attack in sets and your own buffs/debuffs are your friend. Prioritize staying above ~1200 HP and wear it down, it gets fairly slow during the last 25%. If going in as RDM don't rely on having convert to bail you out as Protostar will reset JAs. Jobs attempting to solo will have to be approached with the mindset of maximizing your self-sustain. A player will need to be well geared (meaning a fair understanding of the weapon combo preferred for use, as well as an understanding of how/when to use proper DT/MEva sets as well), as well as being observant of the proper timing to cure, repply debuffs/buffs or use a WS. This is because the melee damage in one of his wing modes was significantly higher than it was before, hitting for 500-800 per hit with the threat of terror or stun from TP attacks. He also managed to land a 400 damage Kaustra on me, which was a very harrowing 2ish minutes while he was under 25% HP.

No drops from the attempt, so nothing notable to add here. Party composition and recommended meds are the same as my strategy for N, below but don't count on trusts to survive. Just get the buffs you can out of them and focus on the fight. If you have to prioritize keeping one or two alive I would say Monberaux and Ulmia are the most important, in that order. 2x stacks of holy water to be safe, only once did I not remove doom from Supernova 1/1 using them combined with Nicander's Necklace and Gishdubar Sash only. Still no proc mechanics were observed, but the focus was more on survival for this particular version of the fight than anything else. VD can likely be solo'd in the same manner, but the clock would be much more of an issue.

Trivial fight solo on D as a RDM using Excalibur R15 and any offhand of your choice (i ran demersal since its really the best pairing with xcal). the extra regen and refresh go a deceptively long way without trusts. make sure you have a holy water build. you can get up to 80% cure rate using Nicander, Purity, and blemonts ring. Just do your simple KOR > KOR - you wont be able to three step without a bard song reliably, and your trusts aren't long for this world. Valainreal + Selthus + Monbreaux are a winning combo but even then they usually wont make it past 50%. dont expect any other trusts to survive the first few hits. you might get lucky if you pro/shell them all in advance.

Easy solo on D as RDM/NIN. Only trust used was Cornelia, Food used was Popo. con Queso, Weapon combo Almace R15/Gleti's knife. Saboteur/Addle II/Slow II/Paralyze II at start. With Barblizzard and Barparalyze up the only Medicine used was Holy Water ~3/fight with 83% doom remove (Blenmot's Ring +1 (+10%) x2 + Nicander's Necklace (+30%). Consistent 5-6min fights +buffing without any drop ever.

Normal

Solo on N as RDM/NIN, a much higher degree of self sustain is needed over E. I'd recommend some form of AoE heals as the trusts get wrecked, so meds are mandatory. Most effects from boss TP moves didn't land, as with the E solo testimonial I made below. Just wear a higher MEva set and favor DT. At this difficulty level Shinryu begins to use Doom (Supernova) and JA resets (Protostar) also casting Kaustra and Impact so be ready to deal with it. Kaustra did not land for much, but I went AFK after the fight to write this and came back to a corpse in the ready area. Be mindful it will zone with you and if it does happen to land at higher strength mid-fight you will want a backup plan for healing if trusts die. Overall this was a moderately difficult solo in the sense that you will need to be prepared to not have trusts, or go to greater lengths to keep them alive.

As for the party config, I built the trusts around being a RDM and doing the things a RDM should be doing aside from only meleeing. With that said, you might need to adjust the list for your needs if not attempting solo as RDM as well to accommodate for Haste and debuffs. With TH4 I was able to go 1/1 on Ring which on its own doesn't tell you much but is worth noting that accessory did drop at this level. I could not find any indication of "procs" as I went in during the slashing window for Abyssea blue procs and observed clean sword weaponskills not proc'ing. Keep in mind RDM doesn't cover all weapon types, so I can't rule out procs as a system, and eventually settled for Savage Blade spam.

Recommended Meds:

  • Panacea
  • Remedy
  • Holy Water (10 count doom, you should have time to remove it)

Trust Setup: Selh'teus / WHM / WHM / BRD / COR

  • Selh'teus - The idea was to have him restore after a high damage attack. He died immediately on engaging.
  • Ygnas - UC WHM Trusts will probably be fine.
  • Monberaux - Use a second WHM trust if you find your run lacking in healing and don't have access to him.
  • Ulmia - Marches. Gotta cap that Haste.
  • Qultada - Since I was a RDM I opted for a trust that would enhance Dia and provide an attack bonus

-User:Thefoxdanger 21:05, 12 July 2021

Easy

Solo on E as DNC/DRG, but any job with self sustain should be viable. Wearing a higher MEva DT set left only the all stats down attack (Atomic Ray) and some stuns landing. Didn't see doom once. I spent more time keeping trusts alive than healing myself and was never in danger of losing as no trusts died, never dropping below 50% HP. Kept Lv10 Box and Feather Step on the boss and spammed Evisceration with Tauret, with the occasional Climactic Rudra's (normal stuff). Just about any weapon combo should get you there, just survive and outlast it. Overall difficulty was low for a solo with a small amount of forethought and preparation.

I wanted to also give an idea of the party config and buffs that seem reasonable. Nothing requiring any special tech, just a balanced group that casts haste and is healing-focused should do. No notable drops on the 1/1 attempt with TH4. The TH and single attempt doesn't say much about its effect though. I didn't see any evidence during the run that extra mechanics were in play to increase drops, as with Lilith it might only be present on N+ difficulty.

Recommended Meds:

  • Panacea
  • Holy Water (It may not doom on this difficulty, but better to be safe)

(Edit) Does not Doom until N+ difficulty I have done over 100 on E without getting doomed. Liquefier (talk)Liquefier

Trust Setup: GEO / WHM / WHM / BRD / RDM

  • Sylvie - Could also be Qultada, but I wanted another source of status removal.
  • Ygnas - UC WHM Trusts will probably be fine.
  • Monberaux - Use a second WHM trust if you find your run lacking in healing and don't have access to him.
  • Ulmia - Marches. Gotta cap that Haste.
  • King of Hearts - Haste2, Dia3, and status removal. Note: He will ignore everything but the player for those not used to using this trust.
