A Note from the Author:

I've found that Sortie is more or less an optimization experience that a lot of groups have to go through to be efficient at collecting gallimaufry, and while the experience of farming 9 boss runs daily is fresh in my mind I wanted to create a guide of some kind to assist those players new to the game on a strategy of how to do 9 boss in an efficient enough way, so less time is spent on developing a strategy that may not work well. Most of the ideas in this guide are not created by me, I have merely been using them on runs.

Job Setup

There are various different setups for how to do all 9 boss kills in one run, generally one of the following setups is used:

Melee Job Setup:

  • DNC/drg
  • RDM/drk
  • COR/drk
  • BRD/drk
  • GEO/drk
  • PLD/whm or /sch or /run

Pre-entry Buffs

Before entering into Sortie the following buffs can be applied to party:

  • Ionis
  • Naturalist's roll
  • Haste II
  • Protect V
  • Shell V
  • Regen II (Regen V if using an available SCH mule or friend)
  • Bar-element spell
  • Bar-status spell
  • Reraise Items
  • Food (Marine Stewpot is typical)

Post-entry Buffs

  • (Crooked) Samurai Roll
  • Miser's Roll
  • Phalanx II
  • Chocobo Jig II
  • Holy Circle
  • Auspice (if PLD/whm)
  • Entrust Indi-Regen (or Acumen) on the COR

Shard Acquisition

  • A Shard:
    • Job: RDM
    • Location: Corridors south of entrance bitzer, on the way to D boss
    • Objective: 3x Kill Acuex mobs with magic damage
    • Notes: Either melee or nuke down Acuex mobs to low HP, then finish with Fire spells
  • B Shard:
    • Job: COR
    • Location: Big room north of B bitzer (fire elementals)
    • Objective: Perform a weapon skill on 5 elementals before killing them
    • Notes: Use the Skillchain Leaden Salute > Wasp Sting > Leaden Salute (Darkness) to melt these down. You should survive OK using a DT set and regen.
  • C Shard:
    • Jobs: DNC & GEO
    • Location: Big room east of C bitzer
    • Objective: 3 x Perform a non-killing magic burst on corse mobs
    • Notes: Have the DNC perform Ruthless Strokes > Ruthless Strokes (Fusion) to have the GEO magic burst fire, then extend the skillchain with another Ruthless Strokes and finish the corse with more magic bursts
  • D Shard:
    • Jobs: PLD & BRD
    • Location: Big room next to D boss
    • Objective: 3 x Perform a non-killing 4-step skillchain on fomor, then kill them
    • Notes: I recommend using the SC: Savage Blade (PLD) > Burning Blade (BRD) > Flat Blade (PLD) > Savage Blade (BRD) > Chant Du Cygne (PLD). IF you have time, you can do this on 6 fomor to get the metal temp KI, which will prevent the D boss from debuffing your party. You'll want to try pulling mobs with flash without pulling the whole room of fomor (as they link). If you aim to do 6 kills, you can drop down to the lower level.

Boss Route

D > H > A > B > C > G > F > E > Aminon

D Boss - Degei

This boss should be a simple WS zerg where all 6 party members can contribute towards damage. Ensure

Blue Proc (reduce DT build-up):

  • Flaming Kick Element: Fire : counter with Element: Water water damage.
  • Flashflood Element: Water : counter with Element: Thunder thunder damage.
  • Icy Grasp Element: Ice : counter with Element: Fire fire damage.
  • Eroding Flesh Element: Earth : counter with Element: Wind wind damage.
  • Fulminous Smash Element: Thunder : counter with Element: Earth earth damage.

Pre-pull:

  • PLD:
    • Barblizzara, Barparalyzra, Crusade, Auspice, Majesty, Divine Emblem
  • RDM:
    • Haste II, Phalanx II on party, Refresh III on self and PLD
  • DNC:
    • Haste Samba, Saber Dance, Presto
  • BRD:
    • Ensure 4 songs are kept on party. Save Nitro for next boss.
    • Honor March, Minuet 4, Minuet 5, Aria (or Herculean Etude)
  • COR:
    • Samurai Roll (Chaos not needed, save the Phantom Roll timer for Bolters)
  • GEO:
    • Indi-Fury, Blaze of Glory (for next Geo-Frailty)

Fight:

  • PLD (melee boss):
    • Flash and Shield Bash on cooldown for enmity. Use 3-4 Job Abilities to boost more enmity. Use Savage Blade with Burtgang. Use Aeonic shield for enmity. Majesty Cure IV spam as party requires for healing
  • RDM:
    • Dia III, Distract III (only if needed), Black Halo with Maxentius
  • DNC:
    • Box Step on engage, use Ruthless Strokes if using Prime dagger otherwise use Rudra's Storm
  • BRD:
    • Savage Blade with Naegling, use Last Resort if available.
  • COR:
    • Light shot when Dia III is on, use Savage Blade. Use Quick Draw to proc blue.
  • GEO:
    • Geo-Frailty
    • Use Judgment with either Idris or Aeonic club

Post-Fight:

  • Everyone: Use sneaking oils or sneak spell
  • COR: Use Bolters rolls to cap movement speed

H Boss - Aita

This boss can be tricky to pull off for beginners, the tank is required to pull and kite the boss (ideally kept inside the Geomancy bubble) while being close enough to not lose enmity (PLD to be within 25 yalms) but also being far enough to avoid Aita using any TP moves (PLD to stay 20+ yalms). Gravity II is required to allow the bosses' movement speed to be slow enough to control the kiting. If fetters spawn, it's an indication that hate was lost from the tank (or Aita got too close to it's current target). For that reason, try to ensure the DNC is using High and/or Super Jump to reduce built-up enmity after applying severe damage. It's okay for a couple of fetters to come out so long as enmity is brought back in-control and party can panacea any debuffs they recieve.

Blue Proc (reduce DT build-up):

  • Flaming Kick Element: Fire : counter with Element: Water water damage.
  • Flashflood Element: Water : counter with Element: Thunder thunder damage.
  • Icy Grasp Element: Ice : counter with Element: Fire fire damage.
  • Eroding Flesh Element: Earth : counter with Element: Wind wind damage.
  • Fulminous Smash Element: Thunder : counter with Element: Earth earth damage.

Pre-pull:

  • PLD:
    • Barblizzara, Barparalyzra, Crusade, Auspice, Majesty, Divine Emblem
  • RDM:
    • Saboteur, Chainspell or Spontaneity for opening Gravity II (ensure enfeebling effect gear is used)
    • Haste II, Phalanx II on party, Refresh III on self and PLD
  • DNC:
    • Haste Samba, Saber Dance, Presto
  • BRD:
    • Use Soul Voice + Clarion Call (unless decided to use for previous boss)
    • Honor March, Minuet 4, Minuet 5, Blade Madrigal, Aria (or Herculean Etude)
  • COR:
    • Samurai Roll (Chaos not needed, save the Phantom Roll timer for Bolters)
  • GEO:
    • Indi-Gravity, Entrust Indi-Fury to a party member. Use Bolster + Widened Compass for the next Geo-Frailty.

Fight:

  • PLD (melee boss):
    • Flash and use JAs on cooldown for enmity. Consider starting with Fealty to prevent paralysis in case the boss gets an initial TP move off.
    • Use Aeonic shield for enmity.
    • Keep your distance from the boss between 20-25 yalms to ensure a good balance.
  • RDM:
    • Dia III, Distract III (only if needed), Black Halo with Maxentius. If boss gets to use a TP move, use a tier 1 nuke to proc blue.
  • DNC:
    • Start with one Rudra's Storm to apply Gravity effect on top of the RDM's spell
    • Box Step
    • Ruthless Strokes if using Prime dagger, otherwise use Rudra's Storm.
  • BRD:
    • Savage Blade with Naegling, use Last Resort if available.
  • COR:
    • Light shot when Dia III is on, use Savage Blade. Use Quick Draw to proc blue.
  • GEO:
    • Geo-Frailty (try to position bubble close to middle of arena as PLD needs to try keeping Aita inside)
    • Use Judgment with either Idris or Aeonic club.

Post-Fight:

  • Everyone: Use sneaking oils or sneak spell
  • COR: Use Bolters rolls to cap movement speed

A Boss - Ghatjot

This boss is generally very easy to beat, the only real concern is avoid water or darkness skillchains which can cause it to become enraged with big damage. Depending on kill speed, there's a good chance it will AoE the party with a poison. This can be removed if the RDM managed to kill enough Acuex at the start of the run to get the A Metal but it's by no means needed as killing the boss quickly will ensure the DoT damage from the poison is weak enough to be overcome with Regens from the RDM or PLD majesty healing.

Pre-pull:

  • PLD:
    • Barwatera, Barpoisona, Crusade, Majesty, Divine Emblem
  • RDM:
    • Haste II, Phalanx II on party, Refresh III on self and PLD
  • DNC:
    • Haste Samba, Saber Dance, Presto
  • BRD:
    • Ensure 5 songs are kept on party with enough time if Nitro is ready
  • COR:
    • Samurai Roll (Chaos not needed, save the Phantom Roll timer for Bolters)
  • GEO:
    • Indi-Fury, Entrust Indi-STR to a party member if available

Fight:

  • PLD (melee boss):
    • Flash and Shield Bash on cooldown for enmity. Use 1-2 Job Abilities to boost more enmity (save some for next boss). Use Savage Blade with Burtgang. Use Aeonic shield for enmity.
  • RDM:
    • Dia III, Distract III (only if needed), Black Halo with Maxentius
  • DNC:
    • Box Step on engage, use Ruthless Strokes if using Prime dagger otherwise use Shark Bite
  • BRD:
    • Savage Blade with Naegling, use Last Resort if available. Fire Threnody II if the COR is planning to use Hotshot
  • COR:
    • Use Hotshot if readily geared for it, otherwise use Savage Blade
  • GEO:
    • Geo-Frailty, Use Judgement with either Idris or Aeonic club

Post-Fight: Everyone: Use sneaking oils or sneak spell COR: Use Bolters rolls to cap movement speed

B Boss - Leshonn

This boss can be luck-dependent on whether it goes smooth. He'll either spawn in thunder or wind mode (check the hands), both are tricky for different reasons

  • Wind-Hands: He can absorb a random buff per TP move he does, one each from everyone in melee range
  • Thunder-Hands:

C Boss - Skomora

TODO

G Boss - Triboulex

TODO

F Boss - Gartell

TODO

E Boss - Dhartok

TODO

Final Boss - Aminon

TODO

Bonus Points

Depending on the time remaining after Aminon is killed, a number of spare chest objectives can be reached. Be sure to exit the E Zone after killing Aminon:

  • Enter the H Zone again
    • Anyone entering for the 2nd time in the run will spawn a chest at the start
  • Kill the remaining roaming NMs in A/B/C/D zones
    • A Zone - Abject Obdella (North of entrance bitzer)
      • Anyone in the party can be sent to kill this NM
    • B Zone - Biune Porxie (North of B bitzer)
      • COR can easily solo with Leaden Salute or Savage Blade
    • C Zone - Cachaemic Bhoot (East of C Bitzer)
      • DNC, RDM, COR, or BRD can easily handle this
    • D Zone - Demisang Deleterious (South of D Bitzer, in the big room)
  • Kill the 6 fomors north of D bitzer in order
    • Kill order is WAR > MNK > WHM > BLM > RDM > THF
  • Enter F Zone again and kill spawned Naakuals in the split room
    • If damage is good, the party can split up and weapon skill on different NMs once the tank is holding each mob
