Obsolete Testimonials
- Biast is easily blink tanked, though he uses Petro Eyes, Heavy Stomp (semi-weak Paralyze), and has Additional Effect: Terror on his attacks. He melees mages for ~100/hit.
- Many jobs can solo him (RNG/NIN, BST/NIN, RDM/NIN, BLM/RDM, THF/NIN), and any Mage + Melee/Nin duo should be able to kill him as well.
Moon Phase Speculation
So, I've had exactly two run-ins with Biast, 37 hours apart. The first was at the end of Full Moon, the second was towards the middle of New Moon. Basically, I looked at the Alla comments by "Lastingfear" and noticed that his pops were generally 32-39 hours apart. I didn't think anything of it other than "gawd, that sucks" and started killing Shadow Dragons. Full Moon came, and so did Biast. Then I hit up crafting timer, did some simple math to determine that 32-39 is about the distance between moon phases, saw a post by Drewpac about killing Black Coney and then spawning Biast, and connected the dots. I came back today during New Moon, Biast popped, and I got the helm. I won't be going back, but would appreciate verification. It fits all the data too well to really be wrong. The random spawn window, the people seeing it during Full/New Moon, the fact that it was added around the same patch with the other moon based NMs. It's just probably right. Btw, Biast gave me (RDM75/BST37) 20xp with signet in a party of 3. I calculated that out to be 20/.55 = ~36, so I assumed it was either 13 or 12 levels below me.
- update* I've recently talked to someone else on my server with the helm, and he claims Biast repopped 25 hours after he last killed it. The moon thing might still be possible, but I've moved it back to the stupid long window with a verification tag that's on all the other sites.

Witnessed this NM spawn at First Quarter Moon 50%. Full/New Moon speculation is probably unlikely to be accurate. Hya (talk) 13:25, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
Verified Spawn Conditions
- *Lottery Spawn from the Shadow Dragon. Spawns precisely where the Shadow Dragon died, right after the name fades away.
- *Window opens 21 hours from Time of Death. Whether server maintenance counts as time of death or opens its window is unknownVerification Needed. Note that as with any Lottery Spawn Notorious Monster, it may take many more hours after the window has opened for Biast to appear.
- *Respawn time of the Shadow Dragon is 10 minutes.
- This enemy was killed at Waxing Crescent 26% as shown in the attached photo. --
