I'm not confident enough in how this should be organized to put it on the main page, but I've consolidated rank-up reports up to here.
It is widely assumed that Mastery Rank updates via a hidden point system, where different objectives yield different amounts of credit, and there are possible bonuses for completing a category. However, its hidden nature and imprecise updating makes it difficult to tell what action causes a rank up. The only way to be sure is to zone, verify your rank, do one thing, (zone,) and observe your rank has changed, which lets you know that one action gave Master Rank points. Please note that many span categories (and grant titles), but here are some confirmations in that general pattern of things that likely contribute:
