The Wizardry Variants Daphne × FINAL FANTASY XI Collaboration Event was held to honor the 45th anniversary of the Wizardry franchise. The event featured a unique Fantasy Castle of Deepest Dark quest where players could explore an adaptation of Castle Zvahl Baileys. Players could farm Dynamis currency to purchase items, make a fascimile of the relic Sword, Shield, and Staff; and battle enemies based on FFXI mobs. Many battle concepts from FFXI were adapted including skillchains and linking, along with music and sound effects from FFXI being utilized. Using Dynamis currency and Gil found within the event dungeon, players could obtain and upgrade several of the Relic Weapons and obtain versions of their associated weapon skills- Claustrum, Amanamurakumo, Mandau, Yoichiyonumi, Aegis, Ragnarok, and Excalibur are represented.
The event runs from July 30th, 2026 17:00 JST through September 9th, 2026 12:59 JST.
For some additional context in regards to this collaboration, for those who don't know: The Wizardry franchise, whose first title released in 1981 on the Apple II computer system, has long been cited as an inspiration to both the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series. Its titles, from the beginning all the way up to the latest title, Wizardry Variants Daphne, have a reputation for being punishing games with a lot of cryptic elements, something that FFXI has long shared in as well as many of its players know. And in particular it shares a 6-character party system with FFXI, a class change system not terribly unlike XI's, and has many classes in common with FFXI's jobs, including Ninja, Samurai, Thief, Fighter (Warrior), Mage (Black Mage), Priest (White Mage)
