Category talk:Ultimate Weapons
Made this category page in preparation of the December 2015 update.
When they make the REAMEs just intrinsically superior (more fake!skill, all having large Mdmg, large Macc skill and some of the highest... if not THE highest base damage...) It's just silly to not admit that these are the classic "ultimate weapons" for FFXI.
Plus I thought it'd be nice to have most of the information and links to the items for easy referencing all in one place. -- FaeQueenCory (talk) 04:28, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
I think it was a great idea to make this page, looking nice. Funkworkz (talk) 14:56, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
As my changes were deemed improper again, I've added them to my personal page so they can be referenced/reviewed and I'm going to write about why I made the changes I did. The Ultimate Weapons page has the names of each REMA ONE time, under their WEAPONSKILLS section. Nowhere on the page is there any information on the stats of the weapons. It takes four clicks from searching (or using the heading at the top of the wiki) to get to being able to even see what a finished weapon looks like (if you don't know what each icon stands for, don't know if a weapon is a relic or a mythic or an empyrean or what, or if you're on mobile). This is horribly inefficient and convoluted.
To be able to see all REMA for H2H for example, that means a person needs to click over times to have 5 different tabs to be able to see the stats for these weapons. I made the changes I made because 1) I believe that a page about Ultimate WEAPONS should have the weapons present somewhere on it, 2) the previous system of having JUST the icons is unnecessarily difficult for new players (or just players who don't know what every weapon is under the REMA umbrella OR who are on mobile where "mouseover" is very clunky) to even find a weapon, and 3) the previous tables not only were poorly formatted for smaller screens leading to a large amount of unnecessary horizontal scrolling, they were not properly colored to work with the dark mode that bg-wiki provides.
My changes had reduced the amount of huge tables, had colors that were appropriate for the dark mode to be able to read them, and increased the amount of information available at a glance.
Please tell me what parts of my changes are inappropriate or where I am incorrect so that I can fix the page to provide useful information. Thank you. I'll leave that up, but nevermind. Don't need a response, so don't worry about it. -- April 10th, 2026 Hikiri (talk)
The tables are awful to look at in the default viewing mode. Not everyone uses dark mode. I am sure that if you find a reasonable balance between the two and share it with the admins, your edits will stop being reverted. Hya (talk) 20:30, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
Hey friend. I get your frustration and the message I left you the last time still stands.
In short, the rollback reason is that you submitted sweeping changes that fundamentally change the page and didn't reach out to talk to us about why things are laid out the way they are or what you'd suggest to change (and how you wanted to effectuate those changes).
To explain a little more: currently, the Ultimate Weapons page serves as a landing page to explain what REMA are, what their unique characteristics are, and high-level information about what they offer. The relevant categories for each one (the Relic, Empyrean, Mythic/Ergon, Aeonic - and now Prime - pages) then have more information about all of them. Further, the weapons *had* to be broken down into disambiguation pages because REMA also evolved over time with magian trials and augments, and those pages reflect those changes over time. Sure, the modern player would probably want to view the "completed" version of a weapon, but every step of a REMA is still a unique item that we need to document. Anyway, re: the icons at each section - those represent quick-access references to each weapon, but really the main page people would go to are the ones I mentioned previously. I do agree that the tables are clunky and overly wide, but some of these are necessary evils that are worth overexplaining for the average player. I'm not going to pretend that having a column specifically for "weaponskill" isn't overkill, but it's often necessary to make it obvious! The formatting is also dated but any overarching change in formatting for tables needs a proper discussion for consistency across the board, as this has cascading effects on a wiki this big. To be perfectly transparent - I think you're making good efforts in tackling issues that we definitely have, but we'd like to be able to make sure we're making it work within the context of the wiki at large.
