Talk:Afterglow

From FFXI Wiki

The opening sentence says: "An "Afterglow" is an effect caused by using the correct Weapon Skills." What is the definition of "correct Weapons Skills?" Just not wanting my Aftermath overwritten (unless I want it overwritten). --Ibhalliwell (talk) 20:50, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

The one that causes an Aftermath effect...--Kyte (talk) 21:02, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. Are you saying having a weapon with an Afterglow eliminates / removes the weapon's Aftermath? In other words, add Afterglow to your weapon and Aftermath no longer exists (for all practical purposes)? If so, how dumb - SE - they should not share the same status enhancement slot but stack together given how much (e.g. 10K plutons, boulders, etc) one must pay! --Ibhalliwell (talk) 22:26, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Afterglow is for your party members, not for yourself/the afterglow user. However, if your party members are also using an Aftermath effect, then they won't receive it either. --Kyte (talk) 22:57, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Ah, how does this work when playing solol? So, you the person who spent millions won't get Afterglow or Aftermath? You get zip, zero? --Ibhalliwell (talk)

You still get the Aftermath, and people don't upgrade the weapons for the Afterglow effect, anyways. It's just a minor bonus when partying with other DDs that lack a legendary weapon. --Kyte (talk) 23:07, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Afterglow has always been "for funsies" as Kyte has said. The only reason why now it's relevant to people is due to the "121" final forms always having them. (which is also why many people will skip the actual afterglowing process and just go 119=>"121" rather than 119A=>"121".)
You will never get this paltry AG bonus, but as it's so much nothing, no one really cares when they have AM. -- FaeQueenCory (talk) 17:39, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

Ah, 121? Where do I read about upgrading my polearm (Gungnir) to 121? I thought there was nothing after 119 Afterglow ... Are you saying the 10K stone upgrade with Oboro makes it ilevel 121 (in fact but not name) and the Afterglow is no biggie. What matters to me - HONESTLY - are the stats and the Aftermath. In my case, it include +5% Double Attack and +5% Attack. Thanks. /bow --Ibhalliwell (talk) 23:28, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

The term "121" refers to the REME "III" versions. The stats are higher than other 119 weapons, effectively making them Item Level 121. They are not going past 119 as far as we know, so they are still item level 119. Gungnir is here: Gungnir (Level 119 III) Funkworkz (talk) 02:47, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
