Tests from CDF @ [1] Level 69 Ul'hpemde (AGI 65) Own DEX: 64 Point estimate: 802/5628 - .09 = .0525 Interval estimate: (.04346734, .06190854) (95% confidence level)

Technically, a 6% bonus cannot be ruled out based on this sample alone.

I also did not check to see if the critical hit rate bonus is constant (no dependence on dDEX).

Spirits Within damage can be observed to determine the TP bonus, which is 40 (which can easily be verified or refuted by others).

Conclusion: Fencer = 5% critical hit rate bonus (given 9% critical hit rate floor), 40 TP bonus for weapon skills based on Spirits Within damage return. --Masamunai 07:56, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

I got the estimate for the critical hit rate bonus and deduced the TP bonus value, but I forgot to mention that I obtained that info for WAR75. I just want to point out that for job traits in general, "the degree of mastery will increase in stages" (SE's words) after the level at which the trait is first learned (example: Dual Wield). It's possible that WAR has a higher level of Fencer at level 80 than BST does at level 80 (the level at which BST first acquires Fencer).--Anti-sense 17:51, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

I tested: sword with nothing equipped in sub slot, sword + shield, and sword+sword (I had to change to /nin for this test and re-take 300% values, of course). Conclusion: Fencer activates when using a one-handed weapon, a one-handed weapon + shield, but NOT while dual wielding. WS used: Seraph Blade. Being an elemental WS vs level 0-1 mobs, this is actually an easier WS to get results with than Spirits Within. --Rep-o 20:14, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

Tests from RitzCracker @ [2] showing TPbonus for WSs change with level. Hint for tiers. Critrate bonus untested. Masamunai 04:46, 15 May 2011 (EDT)

Information related to Fencer II, which BST gets between 80 and 90 @ [3]. --Byrthnoth 10:53, 2 June 2011 (EDT)

Tier 5 Testing

740 was max Aeolian Edge damage with Martial Knife and 25 TP Bonus earring on 99 WAR against hares in Abyssea - Misareaux.

  • 103 TP = 724 damage
  • 107 TP = 728 damage
  • 108 TP = 729 damage
  • 109 TP = 730 damage
  • 110 TP = 731 damage
  • 111 TP = 731 damage
  • 115 TP = 735 damage
  • 117 TP = 737 damage
  • 118 TP = 738 damage
  • 120 TP = 740 damage

So it hits the max at 120 TP. 300-100-25-120 = 55 from Fencer --Byrthnoth 10:54, 26 November 2011 (EST)

Crit Rate Testing

  • 2183/11585 = 18.84% Crit rate ± 0.71%, so ~19% Crit rate with Tier 5 trait and 5/5 merits on WAR 99, dDEX=0 (72 DEX against a max level Hpemde).
  • 3311/9795 = 33.80% Crit rate ± 0.93%, so ~34% Crit rate with Tier 5 Trait and 5/5 merits on WAR 97, dDEX=50 (122 DEX against a max level Hpemde).

So the 9% Crit rate boost is still there either way and doesn't appear to depend on dDEX. This test isn't precise enough to tell whether or not it is a separate opportunity to crit, though. --Byrthnoth 19:15, 7 December 2011 (EST)

Upon further analysis, it actually is precise enough to tell whether or not it's a separate opportunity to crit. It's not. There must just be some crit rate point where Fencer stops working or something. --Byrthnoth 12:39, 9 December 2011 (EST)

My ls mate wasn't sure if brd really got Fencer II or not because of the ? next to brd(or if it just meant at what lvl did it get it) so I had him go test Cyclone at different values 2600 2700 2800 3000 on -1 worms. Just for future reference BRD does get Fencer II. --Darvamos 06:51, 4 January 2015 (EST)
