"Ancient Magic" spells are high-MP cost, high-casting time, high damage spells that only Black Mages can learn and utilize. Ancient Magic spells, especially those of tier II, are designed to be Magic Bursted through group coordination, or used for their static Enmity accumulation. They also have a minor utility for their resistance reduction properties.

Ancient Magic

These spells have poor MP efficiency and rather long casting times (8.5 seconds); being designed to be used for cooperative Magic Bursting purposes. Tier 3 spells of similar level ranges are generally more MP efficient, making it generally more MP efficient to nuke with Tier 3s outside of a magic burst rather than an Ancient Magic spell. In the Question 2014 update, enmity gain from these spells were made static; unlike most nukes whose enmity gain is based on the damage they deal.

Each spell lowers the elemental resistance of the element that is "strong" to it by 30 points (-30 Magic Evasion) for 10 seconds.

Ancient Magic II

Tier II Ancient Magic spells (AM2, AM II) are stronger, faster-casting, and more MP efficient than their lower level Ancient Magic counterparts. Like Ancient Magic I spells, they were also designed for Magic Bursting, with multiple Merit Point options for specifically increasing their damage. And like Ancient Magic I spells, their Enmity was made static (not depending on damage dealt).

Their exact elemental resistance reduction effect is currently unknown, but either matches or exceeds their lower level counterparts.

Enhancing Ancient Magic II

Ancient Magic II spells can be uniquely enhanced by the Augmented Sorcerer's Attire Set +2 and Archmage's Attire Set/+1:
