Getting Started
Speak to Assai Nybaem in Ru'Lude Gardens (G-10) and purchase a clear abyssite for 1,000 gil.
For Abyssea areas, instead purchase a clear demilune abyssite for 300 cruor from a Cruor Prospector.
How It Works
When you have any of the abyssite key items, resting with /heal will check whether there are any Voidwalker NMs alive anywhere in the zone:
- The message "The abyssite quivers ever so slightly, but emits no light" means that there are no Voidwalkers currently alive in this zone that you are currently able to spawn.
- The message "The abyssite quivers ever so slightly and emits a faint light" means that there is at least one Voidwalker alive in the zone that you are currently able to spawn.
- Since you can carry multiple tiers of abyssite simultaneously - for example, a clear abyssite, a colorful abyssite, and a purple abyssite - this message alone does not tell you what you're detecting. For that, you must be enough to get a "beam of light". See the table below.
- If you get no message at all when you
/heal, you're in a zone that has no Voidwalkers.
- Relevant zones are shown in the big infographic below.
If there is a Voidwalker reasonably close to you (within 300 yalms of your current position), you will receive a message indicating the distance and closest compass direction to the VWNM.
- The strength of the "beam of light" emitted by the abyssite indicates the tier of VWNM detected. See the table below.
- If you have two or more applicable abyssites and there are two or more nearby spawnable VWNMs, it will (usually
) report the nearest, regardless of tier.
If you /heal within ~5 yalms of the Voidwalker's current location, it will spawn and attack you.
- They move more quickly than players, and
/healing takes time, so it may take several attempts.
- The VWNM spawns claimed to the player that popped it.
- If it is a tier 3+ VWNM, that player is also the only one who loses their
abyssite when the VWNM spawns.
Each tier of Voidwalker has a different message for its abyssite resonance:

Tier 3 and 4 VWNMs have two different versions that can spawn, often referred to as "Shadow" and "True". The "True" versions grant a title and drop rings, while the "Shadow" versions do not.
These names come from the only visible difference between the two: "True" VWNMs cast a shadow, while the "Shadow" version has an otherwise identical model and animations but casts no shadow.
Make sure you have "High" shadows enabled in your game settings (under Config -> Misc. settings) to be able to see the shadow! If this setting is enabled and the monster does not cast a shadow, it is not "True".
Upon defeating a VWNM, there is a chance that your abyssite will upgrade to the next tier of abyssite:
- When you defeat a tier 1, there is a low chance that your clear abyssite will upgrade into a colorful abyssite if you don't already have one.
- When you defeat a tier 2, there is a medium chance that your colorful abyssite will upgrade into a tier 3 abyssite, depending on the zone you're currently in:
- Spawning a tier 3 will immediately destroy your tier 3 abyssite!
- However, killing a tier 3 (whether Shadow or True) has a high chance to drop a black abyssite if you don't already have one.
- Spawning Yilbegan, the only tier 4 VWNM, will immediately destroy your black abyssite.
- Since there is no tier 5, Yilbegan doesn't drop any abyssite.
