Treasure Chests appear in certain dungeons within the game. Every treasure chest has an associated key to match it, which is used to open the chest.

Keys are dropped from monsters in the same area that the Treasure Chest spawns.

Opening a Chest as Thief

Thieves are the only job that can open a Treasure Chest without a key, and must also be set as a Main Job. To do this, one of the following consumable items are required:

Appearance

It is important to note that Treasure Chests have designated spawn locations within a dungeon that they appear. It is beneficial to look at the Zone page maps to see designated locations where a Treasure Coffer can spawn.

The blue colored dots on our maps are a potential spawn location of a Treasure Chest.

Upon first implementation, Treasure Chests used to take between 16~60 minutes to respawn. In the version update on December 9th, 2008 this was significantly shortened. Chests now respawn every 5 minutes after being opened.

Treasure Chest Contents

  • Magical Maps
    • In the past, Treasure Chests and Treasure Coffers were the only way of obtaining maps of certain zones. Now, all maps can be purchased by Map Vendor NPCs. If you have not purchased the map from an NPC or obtained it from a quest, and the map is one that comes from a chest you are opening, you are G guaranteed to obtain the zone's map as a priority when opening a chest and no other quests are active.
  • Quest or Mission specific items
    • Only if the player who opens the Chest is on a correct quest/mission.
  • Gil
    • The next most common reward for opening a Treasure Chest is a various amount of Gil. If Gil is rewarded, it is split between all alliance members evenly.
  • Gems
    • Various tiers of Goldsmithing gems can commonly be found in Treasure Chests. Examples include Onyx, Goshenite, Amber, Turquoise, etc...
    • If you are in a Party or Alliance, the gem is placed in the treasure pool.
  • Unique Equipment
    • Most zones have unique equipment that is only obtainable from Treasure Chests or the Gobbie Mystery Box.
    • See below for unique equipment and the zone it is associated with.
    • All equipment are ranked at about a C (15%) occurrence.

When opening a Treasure Chest while in a party, and the result is NOT a map or quest related, the treasure is placed inside of a parties treasure pool.
