Orvail Box Notorious Monsters, or OBNMs, were introduced in the August 2026 Version Update as a new system of field NMs in Seekers of Adoulin areas. OBNMs are designed as accessible field content to reward players with new Item Level 119 armor sets. Upon defeating an OBNM, a locked treasure chest appears for three minutes (Earth time). An Orvail Box Key is available for purchase once per Vana'diel day. Players who receive EXP from defeating the OBNM, including members of the party/alliance, may open the chest without a key, and a second time by using a key. Players who were not part of the party/alliance that defeated the OBNM must use a key.

Overview

There are two types of OBNMs in this system:

• Timed: Seven which spawn at fixed locations at regular intervals.
• Lottery: Five which spawn by lottery from their designated placeholder mobs.

The timed OBNMs generally respawn approximately 20 minutes after the preceding chest cycle has ended. The chest appears immediately after the OBNM is defeated and remains available for 3 minutes (Earth time), after which the next timed OBNM respawn interval becomes available. Lottery OBNMs can take considerably longer to appear, with observed spawn times of approximately 1–2 hours in some cases.

The chest may be opened without a key by players who earned EXP from defeating the OBNM, and with a key to open the chest a second time. Players who were not part of the claiming party/alliance must use an Orvail Box Key. The chest cannot be opened without a key after leaving the area, even if the player originally qualified to open it for free.

Orvail Box Key can be purchased from Shabi in Western Adoulin (I-9) for 10,000 gil once per Vana'diel day. The key is , and only one may be held at a time. However, adventurers fast enough to get back and forth with a fresh one may be able to double dip in opening the same chest again before it disappears.

Rewards

The chests have a chance of containing equipment from the following four armor sets, however they may also contain common mob family-specific drops rather than armor. The armor was introduced as accessible Item Level 119 equipment and will be part of a future strengthening/reforging progression. The details of that future enhancement system are separate from the initial August 2026 implementation.

• Ruwa provides melee accuracy, attack, haste, and defensive stats for heavy melee jobs. Its set effect provides Subtle Blow.
• Olorun provides melee offense with defensive bonuses for light melee jobs. Its set effect provides Auto Regen.
• Egbesu provides Magic Attack Bonus, Fast Cast, Magic Burst Damage, and Cure Potency for mage jobs. Its set effect provides Auto Refresh.
• Nzame provides ranged accuracy, ranged attack, Snapshot, and Movement Speed for RNG/COR. Its set effect reduces enmity.

All four sets have Weapon Skill Damage +10% on the body pieces.
