Ninja Guide By Euvedant

From FFXI Wiki
Ninja

Introduction

Ninja is a mid tier DD, it has capped levels of subtle blow, high evasion and is extremely powerful with hybrids. Although you have access to Yonin and gear with high enmity, this job is not generally recommended for tanking enemies that can wipe your shadows or completely ignore them. Ninja is mostly a support tank for when the situation presents itself. You will struggle to tank if your party members are doing capped weaponskills and they don't have access to super jump, in that situation it's better just continue as the damage dealer and not waste valuable dps. It's weakness is that it requires a lot of high end gear to really shine. I highly recommend you pick this as one of the later jobs during your time on ffxi, because you'll struggle to get into end game content.

Food

  • Grape Daifuku
  • Stats: HP+20, STR+2, VIT+3, Accuracy / Ranged Accuracy+10% (Max. 80), Attack / Ranged Attack+10% (Max. 50), "Magic Attack. Bonus " +3. Mirrored Pet Stats.
    • Should only be used when you desperately need the Acc. I prioritize high acc in my sets so I can purposely use attack food, because Ninja needs it. A brd's Honor march should be able to reach 1700+ levels with end game gear. If you are struggling with acc, the entire party should be as well, meaning the brd should be casting a madrigal.
      • Purchased from the Curio Moogle for 4,000 gil, 48,000 a stack.

Attack Options:

Weapons

Non-PREMA

Various Weapons you can use Pre-PREMA Katana. Will also throw in some blunt and piercing. Katana's are mostly used when soloing and when you have enough stp and attack speed to create skillchains.

Katana

  • Kanaria: The first weapon you should get as a new player
    • Obtained as a drop from Ironside or purchased from Zurim for 800 Domain Invasion Points.
  • Achiuchikapu: Decent option for offhand
  • Yagyu Darkblade: If you were lucky enough to get one, this is best used in off hand. Easily replaces Su5 and Mythic. "Utsusemi" effect extends to an area. Can generate large amounts of enmity when shadow effects are applied to multiple party members.
    • Obtained from the Mog Bonanza
  • Gokotai: A best non-PREMA katana, best when soloing and can be amazing in low haste+dual wield gear. Its a good option until you get a better weapon. Will serve you well for Ongo V25
  • Fudo Masamune: Path A is expensive, its a good weapon but will fall behind Aeonic. Path C is a good option for tanking. Enmity bonus from Path C is based on the number of shadows at the time of casting/using a Job Ability. Meaning that should you have 2 shadows and cast Utsusemi: San, you will only have +20 enmity for the gain in enmity from casting Utsusemi: San, not the full bonus from the new set of shadows.
    • Bought from another player or Crafted.
  • Kunimitsu: This Weapon is a must, it is best used offhand without a geomancer and in need of the attack boost in end game content
  • Hitaki: This can be used offhand in Odyssey C segments paired with Naegling. Only recommended for your Savages blades, Naegling's attack buff will make up for losing Kunimitsu
    • Obtained from Trial of the Magians

Not Katana

  • Naegling: Best form of Physical damage.
  • Hachimonji: Mostly used for Tachi: Ageha, which reduces enemies' defense by 25%. Gives ninja access to use Tachi:Kagero, Tachi:Goten, Tachi:koki, Tachi:Jinpu. All Hybrid elemental weaponskills
  • Tauret: Best for Aeolian Edge damage. Ninja Struggles to do piercing damage.
  • Mafic Cudgel: Our only ilvl club option since it's all jobs, works ok if you need blunt.
  • Gleti's Knife: It is the second option when you are not magic bursting with Kunimitsu. When augmented with the subtle blow II 5~10, it will make this the best option when you don't want the enemy using tp moves. It has high attack and accuracy. It is a good option when wielding Naegling in the off hand and are in need of accuracy.

PREMA

Listed are all our PREMA options, descriptions and how they stack up in comparison to the others below.

  • Kikoku : Kikoku is still a very solid Relic Katana for Ninja, but it is no longer considered the absolute best overall NIN weapon. Its biggest strengths are Blade: Metsu, the relic triple-damage proc, and strong performance in situations where you want consistent damage rather than maximizing skillchain output.
  • Nagi: The Mythic, Nagi, has Blade: Kamu damage +30%. At Rank 15 Augment level, total damage bonus is +49.5% because they are different terms in the equation that get multiplied together. Grants a Reraise effect following Mijin Gakure that allows you to get up with 100% HP and without the Weakened status effect. The mythic am3 Occasionally Attacks twice (40%) or thrice (20%) is nice when soloing. The tanking katana, enmity +40 while equipped on the main hand and has the highest Magic accuracy.
  • Kannagi: At iLevel 119, Kannagi has DMG 106, Delay 210, AGI +20, and boosts katana/parrying/magic-accuracy skills. Its main value is access to and enhancement of Blade: Hi, plus its Empyrean aftermath.
  • Heishi Shorinken: At its fully upgraded iLevel 119 form, Heishi has DMG 159, Delay 227, Magic Damage +186, katana skill +269, Store TP +10, and TP Bonus +500. That is an unusually powerful package before even considering its special aftermath. Access to Ultimate Skillchains
  • Dokoku: Ninja Prime Weapon, it's currently one of the strongest endgame katanas available for NIN. It grants the Prime Weapon skill Zesho Meppo and provides a unique aftermath that increases Physical Damage Limit (PDL).

Quick Tier List Basing this quick list on DMG potential for common scenarios, not necessarily perfect scenarios for each weapon.

  • Low Buff: Heishi>Dokoku>Nagi>Kannagi>Kikoku
  • High Buff: Dokoku-Naegling>Heishi>Nagi>Kannagi>Kikoku

Fast Cast Sets

    • You can also use Rahab Ring, Loq. E and test your luck in dark matter augments for 8% fast cast on Herculean Armor. You only need 60% total Fastcast, Job points give you -20% ninjutsu casting time
    • The Alabaster Earring and Plat. Mog. Belt are there to avoid the HP drop

Emnity

If you have the Yagyu Darkblade, you won't have to weaken your dps, equip Dokoku or Naegling when you are unable to skillchain. With Yagyu Darkblade you can cap Enmity within seconds.

Ninjutsu Sets

Notes:
Use Hattori Tekko +3 if Futae is used.
Waist goes in this order Hachirin-No-Obi > Orpheus Sash

TP sets

These are example sets. I normally stay away from "glass cannon" sets. I prefer to have high DT in all my sets and high acc to eat attack food. For Sange, you can get Suppa Shuriken from Craggy Bluff for 5 bayld each. These Shuriken are the cheapest for you to toss. Make sure to disable your Seki Shuriken so you don't lose those. I will not mention new player sets as I don't recommend this being your first job. I also don't like blinking so i'll leave Seki Shuriken locked on ammo
