Adept Reforging is a way to improve the power of ENM material crafted armor sets through a series of trials.

Overview

Adeptus (Rabao J-6, across from the AH) offers the quest Adept Reforging to eligible jobs level 65+ of any account type. To begin the quest, speak to Adeptus as the job whose job-specific-equipment you would like to augment. You do not yet need to have that equipment item in your inventory to begin.

To complete the quest, you must defeat a list of enemies from across Vana'diel, then defeat three notorious monsters (NM's). Finally, trade the armor piece along with a specific crafting material to Adeptus to upgrade the armor with a powerful augment.

The quest is repeatable once every JST Midnight. You can upgrade normal-quality (NQ) armor a maximum of two times, and high-quality (HQ) armor three times. The sections below include specifics on each tier of augments and the requirements for your chosen armor piece.

Additional Details

  • You can complete the Kill Trials in any order, and do not need to return to Adeptus between each one (though he will provide dialogue pertaining to the next objective if you do). You must complete the Kill Trials before advancing to the NM Trials.
  • Kills only count while playing as the job you want augmented.
  • Kills count if you are in the same party and zone as the player who killed it. You do not need to be in XP range.
  • Players must own the armor they wish to augment. There is no armor rewarded to you for doing trials.
  • Players may cancel their current trial at any time by using the Book of Mastery next to Adeptus.
  • Each NQ armor upgrade requires trading a specific material which will be consumed in the upgrade.
  • Each HQ armor upgrade requires a normal quality version and the specific material. Both will be consumed in the upgrade.
  • You can transfer augments from a NQ to an unaugmented(*see note below) HQ version. To do this, trade both to the Book of Mastery next to Adeptus beforeItalic text you start the third trial trade the items to Adeptus for the 3rd augment. The NQ armor will be consumed.
    • Transferring augments from an NQ to an already-augmented HQ is not recommended. Any augments you might already have on your HQ armor will be erased and replaced with the NQ's.

When in doubt, just trade the item you want to upgrade, by itself, to Adeptus. The NPC will tell you exactly what you need to complete the augment.

Summary of Augment Process

The Adept trial process can be confusing, so this section will lay out the sequence step-by-step.

Note: Only one trial can be completed a week. It resets on Sunday at JST midnight (Conquest tally).

  • Speak with Adeptus as the job you want to augment equipment for.
  • Complete Stage 1 (kill trials), and Stage 2 (NM trials), as described in the section for your job.
  • You now have two paths you can take.
    • Option 1: Augment NQ Armor
      • Trade Adeptus the desired NQ armor along with the required material(s). You will receive back the NQ armor with the augment. The material(s) will be sacrificed.
      • Repeat the above step 1 more time for max NQ augments.
    • Option 2: Augment HQ Armor
      • Trade Adeptus the desired HQ armor along with an unaugmented NQ version of the same armor, and the required material(s). The NQ armor and material(s) will be sacrificed. You will receive back the HQ armor with the augments.
      • Repeat the above step a total of 2 times for max HQ augments.
  • Many players choose to do the following to get a Tier 3 augment:
    • Augment a NQ armor twice by following Option 1 as described above.
    • Trade the twice-augmented NQ armor and an unaugmented HQ armor to the Book of Mastery. This will transfer the Tier 2 augments from the NQ to the HQ and sacrifice the NQ armor.
    • Complete the trial a 3rd time following Option 2 as described above.
    • Altogether, this process requires sacrificing two NQ armor pieces as opposed to three.
  • Alternatively, a player might choose to do the following to get to Tier 3:
    • Augment a HQ armor three times following Option 2 as described above, sacrificing a NQ armor each time for a total of 3 NQ armors sacrificed.

Walkthrough
  • Shoryo - As this is a level 30 fight, make use of your Destrier Beret and Chocobo Shirt for the regen and accuracy bonuses. You will not be able to use trusts during the fight, but before you begin, summon support alter egos such as Kupipi, Koru-Moru, Joachim, and Qultada, and fight a few of the enemies nearby so that your trusts cast protect, haste, phalanx, etc. on you. These buffs will remain even after your trusts are removed when you summon the NM. Bring a Hi-Potion +1 (which tends to be cheaper than regular Hi-Potion on AH) if you think you need it, but this is a very easy fight with the above preparations.
  • Doji - This NM is a demon, so it is susceptible to frequent intimidation if you use Warding Circle. This fight is a little tougher than the previous one, but if you go into the fight with buffs from your trusts and have a potion and Meikyo Shisui ready for emergencies, you should be fine. Level 50 means you can use Soboro Sukehiro, but gkt weaponskills are lacking at this level; you might also consider using a polearm so you have access to Penta Thrust (assuming you have a few merits in polearm skill; otherwise you wouldn't get that WS until 51).
  • Desert Hare - You can use trusts in this fight, so attack a few mobs in the area to gain TP and buffs and then go for it. At level 75 with decent gear, this is an easy fight. You can always bring some friends along in place of trusts if you are worried about your chances.
